Peyton needed a coffee fix, so she made her way to J GoB and settled in with a cup of coffee and a really decadent pastry. She hoped she might see some old friends while she was here.

Apparently, Fiona was making her own luck today. Here to pick up some coffee for a Certain Someone, she spotted Peyton... and nearly dropped her back, she was so shocked.

"Hey!"

"Fiona!" Peyton said, standing up and smiling. "I hoped I'd get to see you before I left!"

"I was... really lucky to happen to see you before you left," she said with a smile as she walked over and went for a hug.

"I was a kitten last time."

"I know! Leaving you a goodbye message just wasn't the same as getting to hug you goodbye!" Peyton wrapped her arms around her friend. "I've missed you so much."

She hugged her back.

"I missed you too," she said quietly.

"How've you been?"

"Good," Peyton said, "Really good. I have a few leads on internships for next semester and I've had a lot of time to just settle in."

"And college? How's college? I... wow, what are you studying?"

Peyton ducked her head. "Yeah, loser here. I'm gonna try next semester, maybe study art or something near wherever I get an internship. If I do."

She waved a hand.

"Hey, I didn't even think I'd ever go to high school, let alone college. And you'll get there when you get there."

"You always know how to make me feel better," Peyton said with a smile. "So how are you doing? How are things with you and Grif?"

"We're good. I was kind of avoiding him for a couple of weeks, but not because of anything he'd done. We had parent's weekend and my aunt told me some news that kind of messed with me."

She waved it off.

"I'm dealing. And my uncle set up tutoring with one of the professors for me, so that's good, right?"

"I'm sorry," Peyton said quietly. "You know you can always call and talk, right? Or come visit. I'd love you to come visit. But I'm glad you're getting tutoring if you're happy with that."

She wasn't but she wasn't going to discuss it. It wasn't the time. Maybe on a phonecall.

"I'm all right. You know how my family is... weird.

"Anyway, what're you up to? Back for homecoming? Have you seen anyone else?"

"Yeah. I still... I talk to Eliot once in a while." She couldn't quite help the slight rise in color in her cheeks. "Anyway, yeah, back for Homecoming. Talked to Angela and Jennifer. Hoped I'd see Dean, but couldn't find him."

She grinned at that.

"He'd mentioned. He came to Parents Weekend too."

"Yeah. I wished I'd been able to see him - and you - while he was here, but, you know, not a parent," Peyton said with a smile.

"I'm still working on getting him to come here. I might have convinced my aunt and uncle it was a good idea, but there's family to work on before it'll happen."

"Oh, it would be great if you had him here. I know how much you miss him."

"Yeah," which was all she could think to say.

"My kitten's doing all right. And, uh, not much else I can think to talk about. I'm still kind of boring," she said with a little shrug.

"What about you? What're you doing?"

"Pretty boring myself," Peyton admitted. "Mostly being a bum, hanging out on the beach while it's still vaguely warm enough, looking on line for internships, talking to Lucas... Nothing much."

"Lucas?"

She hadn't ever really heard much about him.

"He's, well... he's one of my closest friends. He and I... well, we were together for awhile, but it was a whole mess because he was with Brooke and she found out about us before he could break up with her and... I decided I couldn't hurt her like that so... Yeah." It was still a pretty sore spot, definitely.
