Chilly Boulder, Tuesday Early Evening

Maron was torn.

She wasn't sure if she ought to look sympathetic or cheery and so was somewhere in between as she waited for Tara just outside Chilly Boulder. (Maron didn't want to have the workers annoyed with her if she had to wait a little bit.)

Idly rocking back and forth on her feet (which were in super cute heeled boots) Maron waited and hoped that she had the appropriate expression at hand for whatever Tara was feeling after talking to Master Skywalker.

Master Skywalker was scary, really, and she would totally not blame Tara if she was upset even if the conversation had gone well.

"He was nice!" Tara said triumphantly, as she came semi-bouncing up. "Hi!"

"He was? Yay!" Maron beamed at that. "And hi! I'm glad it went well!"

She swept a cheerful sort of gentlemanly bow (more of a mockery of a bow, but Maron meant it well) as she held open the door for Tara. "After you, since you did the work!"

"Thank you, milady," Tara joshed as she stepped through the door. "Yeah, he -- didn't exactly agree? I mean, he didn't say he'd stop talking about killing people. But he, uh, he explained why he teaches that way? And I think I understood it."

"Oooh?" Maron asked, stepping behind her and letting the door fall shut before trailing over to the counter.

Shush, she liked sweets and ice cream. She was still listening! "And--that's a good concession, I think? At least about the killing people?"

"Yeah, he says he -- doesn't want anyone to feel marginalized?" Tara said, trailing after her like a good girl with a sweet tooth equal to Maron's. "And he d-doesn't want to just make up examples."

"We're supposed to do Lust soon," she added. "The sin, I mean."

Which kind to get? Hmmm. Maron considered her choices carefully as she glanced over at Tara.

"I think he's doing a good job about most of the class not feeling--bad about their worlds," she admitted. "Though I always feel kind of awkward, I adm--did he say what we're doing for that one?"

Maron was just going to pretend that that wasn't a totally embarrassing thing to do a class on.

"He didn't," Tara said, apologetically. "I would have been embarrassed to ask."

She read the menu. "I think I want cherry vanilla with chocolate sprinkles."

"Chocolate mint with pistachios for me," she decided, giving her order to the worker and then laughed. "I wouldn't have asked him either--not to a teacher about a subject like that."

Tara nodded in agreement. "I was just kind of glad he said we were coming to the end of the military stuff. He doesn't seem like he'd embarrass us too much on purpose?"

"Unless he maybe thought it was part of the lesson?" Maron wondered, considering that. "Like, if he thought it'd make us think better about the consequences or something of a situation?"

"... yeah," Tara said, taking her cup of ice cream to a table by the window. "He did say his big thing is he doesn't want us to be all impulsive."

Maron hooked her purse on the back of her chair and settled down opposite of Tara.

And made a bit of a rueful face at that. "Now I don't know about you but I'm going to be thinking that until I know what the lesson is going to be about--just waiting to see if he will or not even if it makes sorta sense?"

Tara laughed. "Now I will be too," she said. "And -- trying to come up with, um, sort of, worst case scenarios. Like, what if we have to go out on fake dates with each other?"

"Though,"she added, as she delicately spooned some ice cream into her mouth, "worst of all might be if this week isn't lust and we have to wait and think about it until December."

Maron scrunched up her nose at that idea. "No way! I'll be a total wreck if I have to wait until then!"

She picked one of the nuts off her ice cream and ate it thoughtfully. "But fake dates would be less awkward than, like, saying we all needed real dates in a week, no excuses. Because then we'd know they're fake."

"Oh, god, that would be awful," Tara said. "There's -- someone I kind of had one date with? But I d-don't want to ask her out again and have it be because a teacher made me and have what to tell Master Skywalker on my mind the whole time. I'd take an assigned date, first."

"Me too," she agreed fervently. "Minus the already had one date bit, because I haven't ever, but definitely. Bad enough if you were honest about it from the start and were all 'hi, can you be my date for class since I have to but oh I totally like you too', right? But if you weren't up front, or something like they misunderstood, it could go so badly."

"And y-you know it would get on radio exactly wrong," Tara said, earnest as she stirred the sprinkles into her ice cream. "I don't know how anyone gets an actual relationship here. It's so -- small, somehow."

[OOC: I sleep, SP?]

"Small?" she said, taking a spoonful of her ice cream. "Like--there's not a lot going on? Or not many choices?"

[SP is amazing! Sleep well!]

"Like -- it feels like everyone knows everybody else, sometimes," Tara clarified quickly. "I just get self-conscious."

Maron looked thoughtful at that. "I guess that makes sense," she said. "Between the squirrels and everything else there's no real--privacy around here. If you're down or something you can't even just hole up in your room without it being broad casted when maybe it's just a bad day, nothing to worry about."

Tara nodded. "Right! I don't really listen to radio, but every time I hear it, it makes me kind of -- sad? I d-don't need to know that much about people."

"I don't get sad," Maron admitted, "but I definitely get sort of irritated by it? I mean, I think about what they're saying and what some of them are making fun of on the air and then I just feel bad for people because they don't really deserve that, you know?"
