The Boards - OPENING NIGHT! - Friday, 12/4
Opening Night. Those two words had so many connotations. Fear. Anxiety. Failure. Success. Excitement.
Bucket.
Geoffrey was mostly familiar with 'bucket', having been behind the scenes on several amateur productions. Considering the peculiarities of the Island, he was also familiar with 'underage', 'animal transformation', 'gremlin', 'cursed', and 'epidemic' but all of them came down to the fact that opening night was huge. And this time, with the new budget and the new stagework, and the professionally assembled sets, his additional crew, a stage manager, new lights, a few experienced actors---
Well, there was a temptation to head for that bucket, despite the fact that he'd actually worn his best suit, done his hair a little, made an effort to be presentable should any of those folks who'd contributed wanted to actually talk to him, but he resisted. It wasn't as if expectations even for this humble little theatre were new. He'd always made sure to put on a good show, no matter what his means or his actors. No, this was going to be a good thing. A good night. A not-cursed night.
A glance to the corner of the theatre had him smiling, since the little remnant ghost seemed to be almost as excited as he was with all the craziness. Then he headed for the box office. Tickets to sell! People to perform for!
It would be a good night.
[ocd up!]

Box Office
Geoffrey had actually put a bit of care into his appearance, and despite the inner turmoil, was putting up a very good, very friendly, appearance for anyone who'd come by and buy tickets.
The smile isn't even scary. Consider that improvement.
Re: Box Office
Miss someone else go through her nightmare? Are you kidding? Well, Parker was half-hoping it would be. Nice if plays at Fandom went wrong for someone else.

Actually, she- and Blind Seer- were both in a pretty good mood. A little nervous, perhaps, but pleased to be going on stage eventually.

He also had another sandwich; it seemed like the day for it. He ate it slowly while he poured over his few scenes.

Yeeeeeeeeah. As if.
This was him, rearranging the garnish on a rather massive plate of tiny sandwiches backstage. What? He was a nervous sandwich maker.

unless they disrespected his props, yo. He also wasn't all that likely to intervene if they tried to kill each other. After all, they might be meant to. Or . . . something. At least he'd gotten over spending all his time staring at the flies, waiting for something to fall.
Re: Backstage
Hopefully Geoffrery wouldn't kill her for bringing along some unauthorized accessories (http://ny-image2.etsy.com//il_fullxfull.89044026.jpg).

And missing her family. Really, even Buck would've been a welcome sight in the audience.
Re: Backstage
But he wasn't thinking about any of that tonight. Just going back over his small lines.
It would be good though.
Re: Backstage
In the sense that she had very tight control of her emotions and was refusing to allow them freedom at the moment but, still, the end result was some sort of calm.

The Performance
[act! example performance here (http://suit-of-sables.livejournal.com/3156.html); yours doesn't have to be in italics since it wast just formatted that way to make sure there was a difference between example and instructions]
Re: The Performance
Lysander riddles very prettily:
Now much beshrew my manners and my pride,
If Hermia meant to say Lysander lied.
And grin at Lysander, take a breath, and go on, looking like yes, she'd much rather be sharing the same sleeping bag with him. So to speak.
But, gentle friend, for love and courtesy
Lie further off; in human modesty,
Such separation as may well be said
Becomes a virtuous bachelor and a maid,
So far be distant; and, good night, sweet friend:
Thy love ne'er alter till thy sweet life end!
And then wake up, and go on to storm off looking for Lysander, and eventually find Demetrius instead, then having a tantrum. Which was also difficult without laughing.
Out, dog! out, cur! thou drivest me past the bounds
Of maiden's patience. Hast thou slain him, then?
Henceforth be never number'd among men!
At a break-neck pace, storming around like she was about to slap someone, then breaking into pleading:
O, once tell true, tell true, even for my sake!
Durst thou have look'd upon him being awake,
And hast thou kill'd him sleeping? O brave touch!
Could not a worm, an adder, do so much?
And back to angry again, cold anger this time. Mooooooody.
An adder did it; for with doubler tongue
Than thine, thou serpent, never adder stung.
And storm off again after the arguing, only to come back in the next scene, totally confused at both guys hitting on Helena.
What, can you do me greater harm than hate?
Hate me! wherefore? O me! what news, my love!
Am not I Hermia? are not you Lysander?
I am as fair now as I was erewhile.
Since night you loved me; yet since night you left me:
Why, then you left me--O, the gods forbid!--
In earnest, shall I say?
A lot more earnestly than she could have pulled off last semester. Poor Hermia. And then the cat-fight, wooo!
O me! you juggler! you canker-blossom!
You thief of love! what, have you come by night
And stolen my love's heart from him?
Nails out and spitting mad, laughing on the inside.
Puppet? why so? ay, that way goes the game.
Now I perceive that she hath made compare
Between our statures; she hath urged her height;
And with her personage, her tall personage,
Her height, forsooth, she hath prevail'd with him.
Even sillier for Dinah being a good six inches taller, and trying to get around Lysander and Demetrius to get to her target.
And are you grown so high in his esteem;
Because I am so dwarfish and so low?
How low am I, thou painted maypole? speak!
LUNGE!
How low am I? I am not yet so low
But that my nails can reach unto thine eyes!
Aaaand get dragged back as Helena avoided her, and playing out the whole fight, to finally end with the other girls's speedy exit, and Hermia's I am amazed, and know not what to say. Before stomping off, still furious. And giggling in the wings.
To come back, collapse exhausted on the stage, and wake up with everything fine -- Methinks I see these things with parted eye,
When every thing seems double.
And happily ever after, woo!
