Atlas Gym - Tuesday

There hadn't been training yesterday (or Saturday or Sunday given - yeah), and even though Rose had gone to Fencing Club, she was hoping the resulting 'slightly rusty' would hold off any other uncomfortable conversations.

Uncomfortable conversations with Jessi probably couldn't be avoided, but at least she could glare a lot and then threaten to punch things. It would totally stay just threaten unless she found out Jessi slept with Dimitri or something. Then there'd be a spandex-related beatdown dammit.

Jack was glad he could find Rose at work. She and Emma were the last two people he had anything to say to, not counting the fellow at the church.

"Is it Mrs. Frost-Hathaway, or did you keep your maiden name?" he asked. Hey, tease Rose enough, and she might not get around to mocking him.

Jack got a dark glare instead of the usual smile.

But then Rose held up her hand to show off the hastily slipped on crackerjack ring. "I think Frost-Hathaway is a bit of a mouthful, don't you, Father Jack?"

"You could combine the names," Jack suggested, once he was done staring at her ring finger. He was high-mindedly ignoring what she'd chosen to call him. "Be Frathaway, or Host."

"Is that a pastoral suggestion?" Rose asked, looking innocent and almost batting her eyelashes.

"It is if you want it to be one," Jack decided. He was going to act as if there was nothing at all funny about him having been a priest. "Mrs. Rosemarie Frathaway."

Well, if he thought didn't want anything to be funny about it, she'd run with it. "It's a good idea," Rose admitted. "But I think my conscience is troubled - would you hear my confession first?"

"Of course," he drawled evenly, though it was an evenness that took some effort. "Shall I get a pen and paper? I understand there are magazines that trade in interesting 'confessions.'"

Rose totally tried pouting at him. "You'd hold my words under the seal of confession, wouldn't you? Father?

Seriously it was a contest to see who'd break first.

Not laughing was one of the hardest things Jack had ever done, and involved looking to the side and biting his inner lip. "It would depend what they were," he said. "If they were bad enough, I might encourage you discuss them with your wife."

With any luck, Jessi could keep her mouth shut about things that shouldn't concern Rose.

Regardless, there was training to be done and Dimitri arrived after Rose. The world might end. "I apologize for my tardiness. There was a difficulty involving the alarm clock this morning."

Okay, and if he was more formal than in previous weeks, that was probably attributable to the strange events of the weekend.

"No worries," Rose said quickly, totally not quite meeting his gaze.

She coudln't help grinning just a little though. "Can I use that excuse another day?"

"Do you think there will be another day of Christmas bells blaring from radios at all hours?" Dimitri wondered, noticing she hadn't quite met his eyes. Given how he'd woken up the previous day, he was honestly curious how she'd been effected by the oddness.

"I wouldn't mind that," she said quickly. Better than marrying girls and having really bad dialogue. "Long as it doesn't rain like peppermint syrup."

"Wouldn't be far from the maple syrup we already had," Dimitri said, recalling that nice introduction to Fandom. "It might even help people move on to newer strangeness."

"As long as it doesn't get in my hair," Rose decided, making a face. She gave him a sidelong glance. "Why? Was there strangeness to forget?"

Subtle, Rose. Subtle.

He would prefer it not get in his hair either. That had been a pain to rinse out before. "There was some oddness permeating the town," Dimitri replied, knowing she knew. "But it seems to have cleared up. Did you have an interesting weekend?" Two could play the lack of subtle questions game.

"Um," Rose looked down quickly. "You know. There wasn't a lot of training. We should make that up."

Now it was just a smooth transition. Really.

If Jaina saw Dimitri, she saw Dimitri. She had bigger issues to deal with today, which was why she wanted to see Rose.

Which was why she came to the gym with a plastic bag, filled with two pints of ice cream and plastic spoons. It was that kind of day.

Jaina got a smile and a "hi, you" from Rose.

There was nothing to be embarrassed about with Jaina. Rose approved.

Jaina held out the bag to let her pick her ice cream. "Hi. This is badly needed today," she explained.

"God yes," Rose agreed, reaching in to pick the chocolate fudge. "Why for you?"

"I got broken up with as friends. You?" she asked, claiming the last carton and handing out a spoon.

"...how do you get broken up with as friends?" she asked, taking the spoon and pulling the top off her container before taking a bite. "I got married to Emma."

She paused. "I don't even know."

"Congratulations, consider this your gift," Jaina told her, digging into her own carton. She was going through a lot of this lately. "I think I've had the most complicated breakup ever. Yaaaay for winning."

"I think you already won that with the whole 'oh, yeah, well, his time sped up,'" Rose pointed out. "Everything else is just icing on the cake."
