Covent Garden Flowers, Wednesday, 12/9

There had been cookies in the cabinets where the pots were kept. And cookies under the counter. And cookies on little sticks arranged with the flowers, how awesome was that?

Dinah was nibbling on them in between making herself a really large crown of roses and poinsettas. Because you had to be ready! Just in case! You never knew! Someone might come in and sweep you away to Vegas for a surprise winter wedding! Someone really tall! Someone she had an order of roses ready for tomorrow's performance of the play!

Hey, Jak had no problem with dorktastic. At all. Dude.

He even remembered she worked here, so coming by when he was bored out of his mind seemed like an aweome idea. He popped his head in, and grinned.

"Jak!" Dinah beamed at him, rose wreath tilting sideways. Totally thrilled to see him. "Hi! Have a cookie?" And bounced over to give him a hug and a kiss.

Okay, Jak's mouth was otherwise occupied. He snagged her hip as soon as he could, kissing back in mild befuddlement. ...Not that he was befuddled about the kissing. The kissing was nice.

It really was! And somehow in Dinah's demented brain, it was okay to be kissing Jak, because she and Sam weren't together yet. Also, Jak rocked. Full stop. Mmmmm! She hugged Jak as tight as possible, then pulled back to catch her breath a second, saying, "Hi. How was your weekend?" Everyone was crazy!

Some people still were!

Dinah's projection felt a little off today (and somewhere, there was a blond just dying to comment that she always was, so stop wasting time pointing out the obvious in narrative, but no one cared what he thought) but she seemed otherwise okay. So probably not a big deal, right?

I don't remember much, he said, then paused, Just something weird about ruling out the disabled.

That was weird enough to divert the Lurrrve for a few more minutes, with Dinah giggling and saying "What?" aloud. Then she grinned at him and squeezed his arms, Happy. So. Happy. "I ran into lots of people who thought they were other people, or who really were other people. Missed you." She smiled, then the mania crept back in. "And last night's play was awesome! We were on fire! Better than Friday's!" Sam let me kiss him on the cheek!

"What does he like?" Jack asked. "In a partner, I mean. He's wonderful -- the most handsome boy at school. I can't believe I've never really talked to him before."

Dinah boggled for about 0.01 seconds, then her eyes widened at the sheer awesome of this idea. "Really? Seriously? Oh, cooool! Oh oh this is perfect! I've been bugging him about dating again since Claudia left and he's just been too shy, you know?"

"Do you think he's ready?" Jack wondered, then raked a hand back through his hair. "Wait, it might be better if he's not ready -- I can help him get over whatever she did to him. And I'd certainly be very different from her."

The fact he still wasn't sure Priestly liked boys was secondary; Jack had known more than a few men who found him an exception to their rule.

Dinah gave him a dubious look, one tiny margin of common sense trying to break through her Joy To the World. "Nooo, I'm pretty sure he's ready, he made out with some girl last weekend, but he didn't know her name and she didn't get his 'cause they were both crazy, and now he's all embarrassed and stuff." She frowned. "He usually likes girls. Just... any girls." Then she brightened. "But but but! He did say he'd maybe be okay with a guy, he wasn't sure, like ages ago in Mr. Rogers' class!"

Yay! Priestly had an admirer! Priestly wouldn't have to be alone! And Jack was cool! "You really like him? Not just kinda, but really?"

It would be extremely difficult for Dinah to be more dorktastic than usual, but Francine would politely not say that. Today. When she wandered in with the jug of milk she'd just gone out to pick up, to go with all the cookies.

"Hey! I thought I remembered this being your day here."

"Franciiiiine! Hi!" Dinah grinned and held out one of the cookies-on-a-stick, a poinsetta leaf drifting off her head. "Yup, yup. I'm doing the Christmas spirit thing today. Have a cookie!"

"Whatever will I do with it?" Francine asked, holding up the jug of milk as she accepted the cookie and eyed the poinsettia crown. "Nice hat."

"Give it a nice milk bath?" Dinah offered, then snickered, offering up a nice clean little ceramic pot to put the cookies in, and finding some Dixie cups for the milk. "Isn't it? I think I'd like to wear one like this at my wedding. Someday!" Not today! Sam was still getting over Peter. But Someday!

"You'd better plan to get married around Christmas, then," Francine said, setting the milk jug on the counter and absently picking up the leaf that had fallen from Dinah's crown. "Roses you can get anytime, but poinsettias?"

Don't worry, Dinah! Karla had arrived to combat any aftereffects of Francine's logic with more magical crazy-love talk of her own!

"DINAH!" Karla gasped, banging through the door of the flowershop. "I need flowers! Lots of them! Immediately!!!"

"I need them because I--" Karla paused dramatically, perhaps a holdover from the weekend, "IN LOVE!" She sighed happily and continued her way to the Dinah at the counter. "Oh, it's such a wonderful feeling, isn't it? Love is so very, very grand. And deserving of big gestures!" She gave Dinah a solemn nod. "Like buying out a flowershop and having them delivered to the dorms!"

"Tell me who! Tell! Oh, I'm so happy for you! Jack Priest and Priestly! You and somebody! Me and Sam! Yaaay!"

"Raven," Karla said immediately with a dreamy smile. "I saw her walking in the park today, eating cookies and talking to Professor Max and...it just hit me. How wonderful she was and how much I loved her. I can't believe it took me so long to realize it! I'm such a fool!"

She looked at the vases Dinah had grabbed and nodded. "Yes, those are a good start, but we definitely need more." Calling in her purse, she dumped the contents on the counter, gold coins and paper bills milling about with no order. "I don't care how much it costs! I must have more flowers for her!"

And...finally...the rest of Dinah's words sank through the love haze. "You and Sam?" she asked. "Not Jak?"
