Luke's Diner, Thursday

Priestly entered the diner that morning to find the kitchen staff at the counter with a set of bongos, all wearing black turtlenecks and snapping their fingers at him.

Priestly rolled his eyes and walked right past them into the kitchen -- only to discover that at least part of why they had enough time to make up bad spoken word poetry was because all the knives had been replaced with candy canes. So he came back out with a head of lettuce and declared it "Salad day!"

The busboy snapped. The cook glared him down.

Jack had, on Mitchell's advice, changed out of his Good Charlotte shirt and into a plain black one, which was probably best for everyone. His hair, however, was still pink.

He practically floated over to Priestly. "Hello," he said, the glow of true love sparkling in his eyes. "You're looking wonderful today. How is the salad?"

Jack's hair was pink.

Huh.

"Uh, thanks." Priestly nodded to him. "I dig the hair, man. The salad is . . . green." And made up mostly of lettuce, since it was a lot easier to tear usable chunks of that than say of tomatoes, cucumbers, or peppers and things. "You can get it with tofu."

"You do? Really?" Happy Jack was beaming, now. The hair dye had paid off! "I hoped you would. I'll have the salad with tofu if that's how you would recommend it."

People didn't tend to beam at Priestly. Well, people who weren't Dinah. Or Claudia.

Man, he missed Claudia.

"Uh. Sure. Coming right up."

The cook leaned out with a slightly wicked grin and said "I got it. You keep chatting."

Priestly's eyes went a little wide, at that.

"Uh. So. What brought on the pink?"

"I've had my eye on you for a while," Jack said, with a bit of a wicked grin. "I always love what you do with your hair. I thought I'd see how it looked on me"

'Always' and 'a while' both referred to "for the last 40 hours, give or take."

"I wish I could grow a beard, but I'm too blond. It doesn't suit me."

"You probably just have to be patient with it," Priestly mused absent mindedly. Then his brain caught up on the rest of what Jack was saying. ". . . Wait, you wanted to look like me?"

Jack nodded, almost shy for once. "I -- to be honest, I find myself rather smitten with you, Priestly. I wanted you to see how much we really have in common."

From the ... four times they'd talked. Possibly five. But every moment was golden!

Priestly blinked. ". . . Oh." He blinked again. "Well, I'm . . . definitely flattered. I, uh. Mostly go for girls, though. And -- man, you shouldn't go changing your look just 'cause you like a guy ~~for serious, canon~~."

"Mostly," Jack repeated. "Which means there's a chance. And hair can be dyed back, can't it? If it got you to notice me, it did its job."

. . . Okay, Priestly had to give Jack the "if it got your attention" thing. "It does look pretty cool," Priestly admitted. "I just -- I don't . . . really know what to do with this."

It'd been a long time since someone had really chased after him, and other than Claudia, all those preceded his own image transformation. And none of them had been guys. Well. That he knew of.
