Hiding wasn't Dimitri's way. He was a Guardian and could kick the average ass six ways to Sunday. But don't think he was above scheduling Jessi to never ever be in the gym when he was. Ever.

Especially after she burst into his office trying to get her striptease on and telling him she really dug the widowed cowboy routine. When no amount of promising he was neither a cowboy nor a widower got Jessi to put a shirt on, Dimitri had forced an end to the situation and removed her to Brandi's custody in the cycling room.

Some people needed to separate the events of the previous weekend from those of real life.

Fred entered the gym, looking a little out of place.

Well, he didn't exactly look the health nut type, after all.

But he had a mission here, and he was trying to find the owner.

Glad for a distraction from the insanity of his employees, Dimitri looked up from his work at the front desk and inquired of the new arrival, "Can I offer some assistance?"

"Yeah, I hope so," Fred said. "Uhhhh, you lookin' to hire anyone? Maybe in a personal trainer capacity?"

Because Fred totally looked personal trainer material.

Dimitri was lucky he had serious control over his facial expression and he was able to look at Fred impassively and ask, "You have experience as a trainer?" Because no, that didn't seem likely.

"Sort of," Fred said. "Got training experience plus teachin' experience. Plus years of military discipline."

Discipline? "And you think you'd be a good match for us at Atlas?"

Jessi and Brandi were going to stare so hardcore.

"Hell yeah," Fred said. "I can promise results."

"And how do you promise results?" Dimitri wondered, thinking with a statement like that, the guy had to have a good answer.

Fred smirked. "Because nobody moves the Blob disagrees with me for very long."

He considered this and found he agreed with the potential as a strategy. "So you frighten them into staying physically fit?"

"Exactly," Fred said. "Fear is one hell of a good motivator. Gets people movin'."

"Then it's good you ended up speaking with me," he replied, still not cracking a smile, but managing to look pleasant enough to most. "I'm Dimitri Belikov, the manager here."

"Perfect," Fred said. "You want some references? A resume? What?"

"We can start with your name," Dimitri suggested. "And a willingness to work is all that's required."

Please, like Dimitri was doing paperwork voluntarily for this job.

"When can you start?"

"Fred J Dukes," he introduced. "And I can start ASAP. I just got one more class to teach, next Wednesday."

"Finals time already," Dimitri remarked, amazed by how quickly the semester had ended. "Feel free to wait until your classes are over to come in. Do you require a tour or have you visited Atlas before?"

"I been here," Fred said. "Believe it or not. Know it pretty good. It's a nice place."

"Then I won't bother giving you the tour." He did, however, pull out a packet of information from within the desk. "But you can read up on the policies. This includes information about the gun range beneath the swimming pool." Strangest place for a range, ever.

"Got it," Fred said, taking the packet. "Well, that was the easiest job interview I've ever had."

"We're more interested in employees showing up and running their programs," Dimitri explained. "Or the desk." He frowned as Jessi would have been running the desk had she not decided they had a thing. Strange town.
