The Park, Sunday Evening
With some very much not medieval winter clothing, Merlin was rather enjoying the cool weather. Now that he wasn't going to freeze without all the layers he owned on.
Because no one wanted a wizard-cicle.
It might have helped that he was being dragged by Brynn through the park for her exercise. Why on earth he thought walking a dog that weighed about as much as him was a good idea was best left to the ages.

He was surprised to see someone else out. "Oh. Hello, Merlin," he said awkwardly. Out of habit, he glanced through the park to see if there were any blonds who looked apt to hit him lurking nearby.

Maybe.
"Hello, Jack," Merlin replied, trying to tug a massive hound away from what might be the canine version of voicemail on the corner of a park bench.

Jack liked dogs.

"Arthur's, actually. But she's ended up a bit more of a pet than hunter."

"She needs care then?"

"What?" Jack boggled for just a second, vaguely insulted on his sister's behalf. "No. DCI -- Professor Garret gave her a place. It just would be rude, wouldn't it? 'Thank you for crossing the ocean to find me, I hope you don't mind I'm moving 110 years away in six months and you'll never see me again.' "

"... I don't know. Can you do that? I thought traveling in time was an island thing."

He managed a tiny smile. "I know I should be happier."

He reached for the dog again. "Are you in touch with your family?"
no subject
"It's just my mother. I've seen her once since I left."

"I never saw mine, but that might be easier." Jack was just talking, now, as he tried to piece things together. "You know? I never had to -- worry about people just because I was related to them. I didn't really remember anything."

Emma had assured Jack she was pure of motive, but Jack didn't trust that would last.

He managed not to, through heroic effort.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I'm trying to imagine you together, and it's -- you have to wonder how these pairings came about."
"She's over it, isn't she?"

His tone held some doubt about the clické.
