The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [12/19]

Today was the first day of Ellie's new job. She had decided that, while she loved taking care of the horses at The Gig, she did not like the part of the job that required her to be outside during the winter.

The hotel seemed like a good job replacement, though she was beginning to change her mind when she realized she was going to have to deal with Gunther.

Hoshi definitely felt like chatting, since she wanted to be sure that Gunther was on his best behavior.

"Hi Ellie!" said Hoshi. "How's your first day going?"

"Hey Hoshi," Ellie replied. "So far, it's going okay. Just glad I don't have to be outside in the snow."

"Yeah, it is really coming down out there," said Hoshi. "Is Gunther giving you a hard time? Sometimes you have to show him that he can't push you around."

"So far, he's just kind of grumbling a lot," Ellie said.

"He does a lot of that," said Hoshi, nodding. "You don't have to worry unless he starts shouting. If he does, give me a call and I'll deal with him."

"I appreciate that," Ellie said. "Guess you're used to that, huh?"

"Yeah. Gunther used to be a lot worse, but there was a group of us who taught him a lesson," said Hoshi. "We locked him in a closet and took over his kitchen for a day."

Ellie snickered. "Now I wish I had been around for that."

"It was fun. I was the one who got to guard the door," said Hoshi. "Now, every time I ask Gunther to grab something from the linen closet, he turns pale."

"So the trick is to make him think he could lose control of the kitchen, and he might be nicer?" Ellie asked, amused.

"That seems to work for me," said Hoshi. "Or I yell at him in Russian. It seems to have the same effect."

"You'll have to teach me a few Russian phrases," Ellie said with a laugh.
