Our Lady of Fandom, Christmas Eve

Today's mass was actually surprisingly traditional. There were carols, beautiful and haunting, sung by the choir. A processional reenacted the gift of the magi, after blessing each offering, and the small statue of the baby Jesus in creche. Even Castiel's sermon managed to stay pretty well on track, discussing the sacrifice involved in sending one's only son to Earth for the sole purpose of dying for the sins of mankind. There was a whole sidebar into something about aliens and the possibility of multiple Christs on multiple planets or something, but it was only a brief interlude before things got back on track.

Of course, Castiel also performed the whole thing in Aramaic. So, uh. There was that.

When Castiel got traditional, dude got traditional.

[ooc: no OCD today. I'm hopefully going home in 20 minutes, and then I get to run off to festivities not too long after that, so if you're looking for Cass interaction, make a note and be ready for some quality slow play.]

... well.

At least most of it sounded like mass?

Arthur would be here, looking dutifully Christian.

....Yeah, Methodist here. They don't even do Latin mass. They don't even call it mass. Francine would be .... listening politely, mostly. And every so often shooting do have any idea whatsoever what he's saying? glances in Arthur's direction.
bitchprince: (...que?)

Arthur made a gesture at her that, combined with expression, clearly spelled I HAVE NO IDEA.

"Is it just me or is he almost less confusing this way than he usually is?" she found herself blurting.

"I'm sure that in whatever tongue he's speaking," Arthur said, delicately, "He makes sense. Unfortunately, he chose the one that makes sense to no one."

"It's kind of pretty if you don't try to figure out what it means, I guess," Francine allowed. "It sounds holy, anyway."

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-12-25 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
"It makes a change from Latin," he agreed, laconically.

"I'll have to take your word for it. It's not like I speak that either."

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-12-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur shot her a surprised look. "They don't teach you latin?" he said, "Everyone's literate around here. I'm surprised."
thatsamilkshake: (explaining)

[personal profile] thatsamilkshake 2009-12-25 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can read," Francine protested, though she was fairly sure that wasn't what he meant. "But nobody writes in Latin anymore. It's only used for... like... naming things in science."

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-12-25 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur's face scrunched up. "Now that's just odd," he judged. "It's the way mass should be held."

You'd eat that tomorrow if you knew what Castiel would be preaching about.

"I guess some churches still do?" Francine's knowledge of such things was limited, to say the least. "But ours, my mom's, I mean, does services in English." So you could hear all the terribly, terribly polite messages about loving the sinner but hating the sin.

[personal profile] bitchprince 2009-12-25 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur shrugged. With one shoulder. "You seem to be one of the few still attending in this day and age," he muttered.

Francine looked around. "Well. It's Fandom. Half the people aren't even from Earth. It's usually pretty crowded in Houston." She hadn't even started to say at home and correct herself; that meant something, Francine was sure, but no idea what.

Magic and other religions and other times and.

Maybe Christmas was just mucking with Arthur's mind. "Whatever," he said. "At least someone still keeps things as they should." That was... a horribly half-formed thought, but formulating what he was actually thinking about wasn't always Arthur's strong suit.

Angela was impressed. She couldn't understand a word of it, but she was impressed. It made her feel very devout.

She might not feel very devout if she'd been able to understand that whole sidebar point, but since she couldn't, well.
