The first of the expected hot blondes (ha!) poked her head through the door just a few minutes after rehearsal ended. "Kiss kiss!" Karla called. "I'm going to try to not be a giant pain in the ass, but I can't actually guarantee anything."

"Why would you think you're going to be a pain in the ass?" Elena asked, offering the bottle of wine to her friend. Look, shopping and girl-time practically required wine; she'd move on to the harder stuff later. "Unless you're one of those people that it sucks to shop with. The kind that keep whining about how their asses look fat and you have to swear it doesn't and they wish it came in red, anyway, and this store is boooooring."

"She just complains that you can see her legs, and this hemline is indecent, and that she doesn't have any breasts," Emma informed Elena cheerfully as she breezed in. "You're going to have to help me bully her a bit."

"None of those things are false!" Karla pointed out, cheerfully following in Emma's wake. "Fortunately, I knew what I was getting into when I asked you ladies to bully me."

Which probably said more than Karla wanted about her motives here.

"I trust you both to not let me leave looking stupid. Or like...not-me, you know?" She said, looking at both of them with trusting eyes.

Elena raised an eyebrow at Emma. "She's trusting us not to dress her up like a two-gil whore, then? I think I can manage 'highly paid escort' if I put my mind to it."

Karla had to expect teasing to go along with the bullying, right?

"And I can do 'expensive trophy wife' if I really want to," Emma mused, going along with Elena. "So we might come out somewhere between slutty and ridiculously frigid."

Karla sighed and rolled her eyes, far more amused than she was pretending. "I'm so glad you two are keeping yourselves amused while I do all the work."

"Well, if you're just going to lay there," Elena said, "what choice do we have?"

Never give her an opportunity for a sex joke.

"So have we definitely ruled out just waiting in his room, naked, in his bed?"

"I haven't ruled out waiting naked in his bed," Emma pointed out. "But that's just me."

"Hey!" Karla protested, blushing furiously. "Whether you mean you or me: hey!"

The two of them were incorrigible. Seriously. What had she been thinking?

"I'm still at least another year away from my Virgin Night anyway," she said, turning to a rack of clothing. Not that it helped, because they could still probably see the tips of her bright red ears. "There's not going to be a naked Karla in any male's bed for a long time."

Just saying that made her blush even harder.

"Do you have to be?" Elena asked, too curious about the matter to tease properly. "I mean, what if you met someone and decided you wanted to take matters into your own hands, so to speak? Less formal, less panicking about how it all goes ..."

Said the girl who lost her virginity in a train graveyard.

"I'm going to take this chance to remind you that there's lots you can do without actually having intercourse," Emma said, poking at Karla's arm. "Sometimes it's even more fun, too."

She turned to Elena with an evil grin. "Lingerie, too. She needs sexy underwear."

Her face was going to catch on fire any minute now. "I can't," she said to Elena, trying very, very hard to pretend like she hadn't heard Emma's comment. Either of them. "It's..." she glanced around to make sure that there weren't any squirrels around before confiding, "My Virgin Night is less about sex and more about making sure I come out the other side intact in everything but my hymen." She nervously tucked her hair behind her ears. "If it doesn't go well--I can be broken. Lose my powers. Completely. So..." she shrugged. Elena was wondering how to delicately note the many ways one could break a hymen without having a penis involved, but Karla was bright red and it wasn't really her business, so ... she was going to skip that and head towards the racks.

"It's probably for the best if we rule out nudity, anyway," Elena said, "because we're in a clothing store, and 'just crawl under the sheets' means we're wasting our time, here. Besides, you need cute shoes."

"Taking off the clothes is fun too," Emma pointed out, heading over to a rack to start flipping through dresses. "But we can rule out nudity for now."

"Now, how much of a wardrobe are we talking about? Some dresses and skirts? Every day clothes? Talk to us, darling."

"Here's where we start," she said firmly. "We give you a pile of tops, and you go try them on. We see what works on you and what doesn't, and what you like -- because if you don't like it, it doesn't matter how hot you look, you're just going to think you look weird and not sell it. Then we put bottoms to the tops, and sort out what's good date material and what's more everyday. Or what's either, depending on how you play it up. Nice top with jeans, you can wear to class, or you fancy it up with a black pencil skirt and heels."

Emma, for her part, had snatched two dresses off a rack that might appeal to Karla, as well as a number of sweaters. It was still winter, after all.

"Here," she said, dumping them into Karla's arms. "To try after we pick out basic tops for you."

Tossing only a few things in a bag? Oh Karla. You asked for a new wardrobe, and that's what you're going to get.

Karla, of course, tried the blue ones on first. It was just how these things worked. "So what makes these more, uhh, accidentally sexy?" she asked through the curtain. "Mostly because I don't think I'd recognize sexy if it came up and--" she was going to say 'bit me,' but that was like asking for a gremlin attack "--and politely introduced itself to me."

"Confidence is sexy," Elena replied. "The right outfit can be like armor. You can face down anything, because you know you look good and nothing can shake that idea. And you hold your chin higher and straighten your shoulders and walk into a room like you own it. It screams, I know who I am, and I know what I want. People are attracted to that."

Which didn't address the clothes themselves, but she was getting there, srsly.

"And some colors are more flattering than others, or have certain suggestive connotations. Wearing a little black dress of a certain cut to a bar? A universal 'fuck me now' signal," Emma replied cheerfully. "Which is not what we're going for here, but the point stands."

"Does dark blue have a connotation?" The question was a bit muffled as Karla pulled on one of the sweaters, looking at herself in the mirror before stepping out to show the girls.

"Depends on the shade," Elena said. "Usually dark blue is calming, dependable, things like that. But not always."

She tilted her head, eying the shirt critically. "I like that color on you," she decided.

"It makes her hair practically glow," Emma agreed. "Pair that with a skinny skirt, and it's demure, but flatters your figure."

Karla snorted a bit at 'figure,' but ducked back inside to find the skirt. "I can probably pull off calming and dependable better than sexy. Well--dependable, anyway."

She stepped back out for them to inspect, resolutely not saying a word about the hemline.
