The Boards - Rehearsal - Thursday, 2/2

Geoffrey opened the doors, rather proud of all the work he'd done this week. After all, the place was clean. Entirely clean. Clean and fixed and all right, maybe he had to rehang the curtain, but he figured he might ask one of the kids who could fly or something to do that since he had really terrible luck with ladders usually.

Ender had his script, and he was paging through it leisurely as he nibbled on a muffin. They were theatre tradition, and he didn't really care enough about the taste to bother to extend himself.

Ender got up on stage eventually, running himself through some of the more monologue-heavy ends of his part in the act.

"You cloudy princes and heart-sorrowing peers,
That bear this mutual heavy load of moan,
Now cheer each other in each other's love
Though we have spent our harvest of this king,
We are to reap the harvest of his son..."

He underlaid his tone with some irony; there was some disguised threat in this, after all.

Jack ... wasn't in the mood for a muffin today.

Stranger things have happened.

He took some coffee, though, and nursed it as he flipped through the script. His character was dead in the act being rehearsed this week, which made for a rather easier workload.

Emma was perfectly happy with drinking her soda and reading her script during scene three, which was one of the few moments she wasn't onstage during this act.

Priestly was there. Priestly had sandwiches. All was right with the world.

At some point during rehearsal, a note was expertly bounced off of Jack's head to land in his lap:
You startled me, and I reacted poorly. Coffee next week, my treat?

It wasn't signed, but it didn't really need to be. Jack would probably recognize the author's handwriting.

Mmmmm, muffins. After a week of illness Robin had an appetite that allowed him to eat two whole muffins. Though he might regret it later.

Yet another song I first heard on the Muppet Show.

Jack read the note silently to himself. A week seemed a long time, and if she wasn't onstage for almost the entire act he might have tried to bargain her down.

On the other hand, it wasn't as if he were in any position to make demands. And, while he was going somewhere at the end of the semester, it wasn't as if he were leaving tomorrow.

So: A week, give or take.

He nodded and smiled in Emma's direction: Yes, that's fine..

I'm reasonably certain that the notes to that song are somewhere encoded in my DNA.

Karla was very much not with it today. Most of her attention was back in the clinic, puzzling over what happened to Raven. There was a slow burn of anger there, too, mostly covered by her concern and worry, but not quite.

Karla wasn't at her best today. While she had the tone of concern and heart-sick with worry down pat, her attention was pretty clearly elsewhere.

"My pretty cousins, you mistake me, ummm, much;
I just, err, do lament the sickness of the king.
As loath to lose him, not your father's death;
It were lost sorrow to wail one that's lost."
