The Perk, Thursday After Classes

Kate and Joan had decided to come to the Perk after Drake’s class. It was the best idea anyone around Kate had had in a while, as far as she was concerned. They hadn’t hung out in what felt like forever, and she felt she could really use some girl time.

"Hot chocolate is the best thing ever," Kate announced as she was taking a seat at a table by the window, holding a cup filled with said beverage and a generous helping of whipped cream.

"It so is," Joan agreed, setting her own cup down on the table and leaning her head on her hand while she waited for it to cool enough to drink. "Especially since I'm not big on coffee."

"Blasphemy," Kate scolded her cheerfully, setting her cup down as well. "Coffee is awesome."

"I wish I could drink it," Joan said. "So, anyway, it seems like it's been ages since we talked. What's been going on with you?"

Kate made a face. "Stuff's been kind of weird, for like a month or two, now. Not Fandom weird, just... weird."

Joan frowned. "You wanna talk about it?"

Kate shrugged. "I can give you the short version."

"Go for it," Joan said, picking up her drink and sipping it carefully.

"I was kinda seeing this guy, Jason, for a while, and it was kinda messy and weird," Kate said, tracing circles on the surface of the table with her fingertip. "And just when it looked like stuff was going to get better, he left."

"Jason? I think Raven mentioned him. Were you guys exclusive?" Joan asked.

"We... might have ended up being," Kate said, shrugging. "And maybe if he was still here, I'd be miserable because of that instead."

There was a Leto to think of, after all.

"Sounds like he was special," Joan said. "It's hard when people leave. My roommate had to go back home."

"I guess special is one word for him," Kate said wryly. Then she shook her head and sighed. "I fucking hate people leaving."

"It totally sucks," Joan agreed. "Do you think you'll ever see him again?"

Kate shrugged again and took a careful sip of hot chocolate before answering. "No idea."

"We need a good girl's night out," Joan decided.

"Ooh, more brilliant ideas." For once, hat wasn't sarcasm. "I'm all ears."

"Ooh, or maybe a spa day," Joan said. "We could all use a little bit of pampering."

"Well, I haven't been at a spa for ages," Kate said, "so that sounds pretty tempting."

"I bet we could get a group discount," Joan said.

"So, who's 'we' going to be?" Kate had to ask.

"Raven, Hoshi, Ellie, Jen," she rattled off. "Um, whoever wants to join us really."

"Sounds good." Even if Kate was still a little wary of Raven. At least she knew everyone mentioned, and wow, she really didn't have many girlfriends, did she?

"When should this girly stuff go down?"

"Well, this Sunday is the Superbowl, so that might be a good day to do it," Joan said.

"Sounds pretty perfect to me," Kate nodded.

"Excellent," Joan said. "I'll call the other girls. And feel free to invite anyone you think would enjoy it."
