Magic Box, Thursday, 2/4

The shop was clean and Tara felt like she'd proved a point with her magic during Reserves yesterday, so she felt totally justified in having a relatively lazy workday today. Once she'd taken care of the usual business -- restocking a shelf here, polishing a smudge off an orb there -- she settled behind the counter in her hoodie from Modeling class, reading what even she would admit was a pretty bad (but entertaining) fantasy novel.

The Magic Box was open.

"Yeah, it doesn't matter what you believe," Tara said, as she selected a simpler gold cross for herself. "It just -- works."

Well, it did in the Buffyverse.

She raised an eyebrow. "I've heard he has a scary temper." Not that she objected to a scary temper in this particular situation.

"He is very protective of his students," Raven said, as close to agreeing as she would get. She didn't feel so bad anymore about being somewhat pleased when Anakin had punched Max on her behalf. She fingered the cross lightly, getting used to the feel of wearing it. "It was Professor Maximus who attacked me," she said. "And the radio last night said that Professor Chevalier is a vampire as well. I am worried how many there are on the island now."

"I didn't know about any," Tara confessed. "But I'm, uh. I don't go looking for them."

She started moving about the shop to gather supplies. "How many places would you want to ward?"

"My room, for certain," Raven said. "And Lady Aphrodite's shop if she will allow me. Those are the places that I am most often alone for any long period of time."

"So, two places," Tara said, half to herself. "And a little extra in case you think of a third."

She finished measuring out the elements of the spell and went to copy over the instructions that went with them. "I'm pretty sure this is from my universe?" she said. "I don't know how it'll work for other vampires, but it has to be better than nothing."

Raven watched her gathering the ingredients, running through her knowledge of spells and herbalism to try to figure out what each one was supposed to do. "Thank you," she said. "I hope that Professor Maximus has been found and forced to leave the island, but I know I would feel much safer with some manner of protection in place." Especially since even if Max was gone, Sebastian was still out there somewhere.

"I would too," Tara agreed, and she was setting aside the stuff for a fourth protective spell for her own room, because better safe than sorry.

... hopefully Fiona liked the smell of incense.

"You'd rather kick him off than stake in him?"

"I might have died from what he did to me, and perhaps that was his intent, had Joan not found me," Raven said, "but despite that, I cannot wish death upon him." She shook her head, repulsed by the thought. "I do not wish him to harm anyone else again, but killing is not my way."

Tara bobbed her head slowly, her own peaceful nature warring with her but vampires are evil beliefs. "That's -- probably better," she said. "Maybe he could reform?"

"I am not so certain about that," Raven said quietly. Her hand started to creep toward her neck again, but she caught herself and played with the cross instead. "He has gifts very similar to mine, and in the other Fandom, he did not hesitate to use them against me. I do not know if such cruelty and hunger could be truly overcome, not unless it was removed magically." Which she could do, but...no.

"Oh." Tara's face fell a bit, but she said nothing more for a long moment as she finished wrapping up Raven's supplies. "Uh ... if there's anything else I can do, at all, let me know?"

It wasn't much, but she meant it.

"I will, thank you," Raven said, "but you have done much already by helping me with this. How much do I pay you?"

"No charge," Tara said firmly. "I'll cover it. I'd feel weird charging you when you're only doing this because you got attacked."

[trigons_child]

"Thank you," Raven said again, giving Tara a genuine smile of gratitude. "But only if you are certain you will not get in any trouble with your employer."

Tara waved a hand through the air dismissively. "Mr. Winchester is like the easiest boss ever. Besides, I'll make it up."
