Theodorics of York- Thursday evening

For as long as things were making radio about vampires biting people, Adrian had Guardians to tail him. While he didn't have his own in Fandom, having his very own protective shadow wasn't anything new, and for the most part he found it easy to ignore them.

But when one of his current Guardians was Dimitri, he couldn't not mess with him. Which was why he'd arranged an appointment at the spa once the sun set. He didn't need to go, but once he'd gotten into the manicure chair and explained, "Don't worry, if you skip the colored polish it's still manly," it was all worth it.

Determined not to give Adrian the satisfaction of seeing him ruffled, Dimitri settled in the too-small chair and focused on the room around them. "I won't be needing polish of any kind."

"They finish off with clear. It's all right," Adrian said, and turned his attention to the manicurist. "He's just saying that."

"I'm not just saying that," Dimitri told the manicurist, and then glanced toward Adrian. "When you said you had an appointment, this was not what I expected."

Don't think he wasn't tempted to try compulsing Dimitri into bright red nails or something noticeable. He was too sober still to push his luck that much. "What did you expect?" he asked, as innocently as possible while still smirking.

Besides something involving the bar? "An appointment with a feeder, perhaps."

"They're surprisingly hard to find in the mostly human world," Adrian pointed out. "I get to hit the bottle for that sort of thing most of the time." Though now he wanted to find a feeder. Something told him that would not be happening on this island right now.

"I'm not surprised to hear that given the current situation," Dimitri admitted. Though he did wonder about some people's likelihood of volunteering.

"I guess it keeps things challenging," he shrugged. "I'd rather just be able to eat."

"How open have you been about your...status?" Dimitri inquired, wondering how big of a deal this could be.

And then he nearly jumped when the manicurist started working on his calluses. They were major, so there was a lot of sloughing happening.

Adrian didn't laugh, but it was hard to talk seriously when he was trying not to grin. "I don't advertise it, but don't deny it if it comes up," he replied. "You'd be amazed just how rarely it comes up."

It was difficult for Dimitri to take himself seriously when realizing his palms were ticklish beneath all that callus. "Probably about as often as people ask what a dhampir is." So, never.

The manicurist giggled at Dimitri's twitching attempts not to react to the roughness of the scrubber.

"Do you tell people your situation much?" Was he having a real conversation here? Weird.

A virtually unheard of situation with Adrian. "Only if they inquire. My roommate and Miss Harker are both aware." Yeah, that was probably it. "Rose's friends likely know due to our training situation."

"Is that what we're calling it?" And there probably went the actual normal conversation.

Dimitri glowered in Adrian's direction, despising the way he could do that. "Yes. Because that is what it is."

Rose totally wasn't snickering at the idea of Dimitri wearing nail polish. No, really, she wasn't because that'd be inappropriate and she was on duty.

She was however smirking a little as she stood guard a little ways away. Close enough for conversation, far enough away to still be far guard.

It really was good to see her amused at this. It was a definite plus for Adrian. "Enjoying the show, little dhampir?"

"Who wouldn't?" Rose asked. "I'm hoping you go for pink."

"Save that for your friend here," he decided. "It's not really my color."

"Nail polish doesn't stay on with training," Rose said. And she didn't care about that at all really. "So I think it's up to you. Purple?"

The smirk grew. "You're just going to keep pushing colors on me, aren't you?"

"Well, you obviously don't have any color sense of your own," she shot back.

"You've wounded my pride," Adrian said with an affronted gasp. "Fine. Pick a color." He'd give her this one, just because it was her.

"And you'll wear it?" she checked.

This was so unfair. Now did she make him look like an idiot or make her have good color sense?

"I'll wear it. Choose." There was nothing saying how long he'd keep it on.

"The sparkly silver," she said instantly, pointing at one she'd always meant to try to talk Jaina into wearing.

"Fine," he said, giving a smile to the manicurist so she'd know to actually do it. "The things I do for you."

She might not have been flirting (yeah, sure) but he definitely was.

Well, that part was pretty obvious.

"You like it so don't even argue," Rose decided.

Okay, that sounded more like flirting.

"So you know what I like now? Interesting," he said, considering this. "I wonder how you came to this conclusion."

Rose looked over at him for a moment, appearing surprised. "Trained observer."

"What else have you observed about me?" Look at him, fishing like that.

"You smoke too much," Rose said flatly. "And you're drunk like half the time. What's up with that?"

"I'm young enough to get away with it," he replied. The real answer wasn't so flattering to him, and he didn't think it was a huge deal to being with. "Is that a problem?"

"Most people don't drink while getting a manicure," she pointed out.

"I'm not drinking right now," he said. His hands were busy. "That comes later."

"Make sure you wait for the nail polish to dry," she snarked.

Dimitri was working on maintaining a sense of professionalism despite having his hands soaking in bowls of hot water.

So demeaning.

Rose was trying so, so hard not to laugh at him. Professionalism, duty, yep, all of that.

Also her freaking mentor getting a manicure. She was going to hurt herself not laughing.

And he was listening to her flirtation with Adrian without a hair of reaction. It was proving a lot more difficult than he'd expected, given how Dimitri had sworn to himself that nothing would ever happen between the two guardians.

Meanwhile, he was getting some sort of nail-hardening treatment. Fantastic.

She was not flirting! Flirting implied that there was interest and she so wasn't flirting. Dammit.

She was, however, wondering if Dimitri was going to regret all that buffing of calluses next time he picked up a stake.

His lack of callus would be a reminder to never agree to accompany Adrian to an appointment without specifics or reassigning Rose to near guard.

No matter how he preferred to keep her as far from Adrian as possible. Dimitri knew far too much about the royals of court to ever consider preferring otherwise.

Oh no, like Dimitri said, it was her job to be far guard on this one. He was going to have to accept the lack of callus as a part of doing his job and doing it well.

She'd couldn't imagine him thinking that she'd actually be interested in Adrian though. Really? That punk Royal? Really?

As if Dimitri was unaware of the draw of Royals. He had older sisters with interesting lives.

And while he didn't expect Rose to stop flirting with Adrian, he did expect her to be professional. Even if that was completely beyond Adrian's comprehension.

Whatever (or whoever) Dimitri's sisters had or hadn't done, that didn't mean that Rose was going to be enough of a dumbass to get pregnant by some Moroi. Didn't Dimitri remember the twins?

She was professional. She was totally professional. She wasn't even getting her nails done, Dimitri.

Because he had a choice in what was happening to his nails here. When the manicurist asked if he preferred square or rounded he'd stared blankly and reminded her they were just nails and clippers were fine.

Dimitri would much rather Rose be in his seat. It'd bring her closer to her new friend Adrian, after all.

He wasn't her new friend, thanks. He was their Moroi and their duty which meant it was only polite to respond to his conversation.

Because Rose was so terribly worried about being polite.

Meanwhile, Barney was in for his weekly mani-pedi plus paraffin wax. He chatted with his usual girl about the trio and the tall guy who so desperately needed a suit that wasn't cut so horribly.

He'd have to slip them the number of his guy in New York before he left. It would be Barney's good deed for the year.
