Our Lady of Fandom, Thursday

Castiel was back to his usual cheap suit and trenchcoat combo. If you asked him why, he'd blink at you as though he didn't entirely understand that something was different.

It was probably best not to ask.

Today's sermon was on the topic of charity. Castiel was rather a fan of charity, and helping out one's fellow person by giving of oneself and one's talents. Of course, humility was also a virtue, which meant one wasn't supposed to go off bragging about how wonderful they were for giving to charity, but also that one shouldn't just automatically assume that one's culture's norms and values were superior to another, or expecting some reward for your charitable behavior. Breaking the law in the name of charity could be a virtue, or it could be just a really bad idea, because it turns out that law was in place for a reason, and you maybe didn't know better as clearly as you thought you did. And then there was watching out for insulting another individual's self-sufficiency. . . . All of which added up to a very complicated process that was almost enough to make an angel understand why some people just preferred not to give to charity at all.

But only almost.

[ooc: omg, I'm so gonna fall asleep. But at least the OCD is up.]

Listening to the sermon just left Kurt confused. It was very oddly specific.

Humoring was the right word for it.

Halfway into it, Arthur gave up on understanding it and decided it was some kind of newfangled version of Latin Castiel was spewing.

Chuck gave up following what Castiel about halfway through and decided to just sit back with his phone and quietly surf Facebook for the rest of the sermon.

Well, at least he tried there for a little bit.

As per usual, Sookie took the time to think and pray quietly, rather than really pay much attention to the sermon.

It was usually a good plan.

Francine got lost about a quarter of the way in and just went with 'right, charity is good' before moving on to the part where at least it was calm and quiet in here and she could try to gather up a little inner peace or poise or extetnal organs she didn't have, or something before going to That Club this afternoon.

"Charity also gets you tax breaks, if you give enough," Chuck said oh so helpfully after the sermon. "Which you probably don't care about but it's another one for the pro side of charity."

"Yeah, I figured you wouldn't," he said. Chuck wasn't even about to explain it. "It's nothing you have to worry about. I'm fairly sure angels are exempt from paying money to the government."

"I guess the whole church thing doesn't pay much, does it?" he said. "I'm not exactly sure what you'd need money for anyway."

"Well isn't that nice of you," he said. "Where I'm from charity is more about throwing huge parties and calling them fundraisers rather than out of wanting to do something for other people."

He hated those types of events. Mostly because they were filled with really boring old people.

"It'd be important if people actually meant anything by it," Chuck said. "But they don't. We're all kind of selfish where I'm from."

Kurt walked up to the minister a little sheepishly after the service. "Ummm... What... Just out of curiosity, ja, uh, I'm wondering... What denomination are you?"

Kurt frowned. "Then you're not a real priest or minister? I guess that explains why church is on Thursdays..."

[Absolutely -- it's entirely a visual illusion. If he has angelic powers of True Seeing, he should have no problem seeing through it.]

[Sounds like it counts to me. What I'm trying to say is, see as much of Kurt as you'd like. :) ]

Kurt blinked. "Was? ANOTHER one?"

"Well, there certainly aren't any ANGELS just walking around!" Kurt confirmed. "They stick to appearing in saints' visions these days."
