'Dite's Decadent Delights, Saturday, early evening
The Olympics had begun in ancient Greece.
Aphrodite was from ancient Greece.
It seemed a likely thing that she would be watching them this year, and indeed she was. Last night she'd cheered for the opening ceremonies, cried, laughed, and refrained from actually using her powers when one little technical glitch had meant there were only four flames instead of five. She did laugh at Brian Adams forgetting to raise his microphone in time for his lip synch, but other than that she was pleased by the spectacle.
Even though it was Valentine's weekend, the Olympics were on at the store, and she was going to insist they remain on. Right now it was men's speed skating - handsome men in tight suits skating around a track. She was shivering occasionally, but not from the cold.
Perusing the schedule, she suddenly stopped and stared.
"Women's HOCKEY??" For a moment, she frowned. Did she want to see a bunch of sweaty women skate around an ice rink in heavy pads? Then she grinned. Why, yes. Yes, she did. "Canada vs. Slovakia. I am sooooo there."

"'Diiiiiiiiiite!" Karla wailed, running into the store. "I need your help!"
She stood by the counter, panting a bit from the exertion of running from the dorms to town. "Emma's....ermine...help...makeup...clown?"
no subject
Hey, she was trying.

A large make up case and a three-fold mirror suddenly appeared on the counter, along with an upright chair. "Sit."
no subject
That made more sense if you were Karla.

Too bad it wouldn't last beyond the first time she ran herself into ground with Craft.

"Uhhh, green, I think?" It was a dress she'd worn before, but it wasn't like she'd had time to go shopping while they chased Ender around the world.

The make up case opened on its own, and 'Dite pulled out a brush, dipping it in some powder. "A little blush along your cheeks, just a touch."
no subject
She shrugged again. "And, after a while, I just stopped liking him that way. He's more a sibling now than anything else. And...I really like George. He's sweet and funny and handsome."

"Ben's a good friend and he and Tahiri have been through a lot. And they make each other happy, which makes me happy. And George makes me happy, too." She tried not to twitch, even though the brushes tickled. "Besides, George dances better than Ben, anyway. Should he not pick me up in my room?"
Talk about a topic shift. 'Dite might get whiplash.
no subject
'Dite could do topic shifts.

Ah, the intricacies of dating. So very, very lost on her.

Finished with the eye liner, she set it aside. "Lipstick or lip blush? And don't open your eyes yet."

'Dite mused for a moment. "It's not giving the flowers that's embarrassing. But a corsage is meant to be pinned onto his date's dress. For some guys that's a disaster waiting to happen. What if he drops the whole thing into her cleavage? What if she's wearing something strapless, where does he pin it on? What if he pokes her with the pin?" With a smile, she added a small touch of magic to Karla's makeup and hair, just to make it perfect. "Open your eyes, Sweet Pea."
no subject
"If he goes to pin me, I promise to be careful," Karla said, totally oblivious to the innuendo. "Flowers might be nice. I'll have to tell you everything tomorrow. Or maybe Monday."
At 'Dite's command, Karla opened her eyes and looked in the mirror. "Oh, 'Dite! You really are magic! I look so pretty!"
no subject
Yeah, she wasn't sharing about the innuendo either.

She sighed happily (giving 'Dite a guilty look when some of the blush got blown from the brush) and said, "I'm so happy to be home. Where there aren't crazy people everywhere."
no subject
Aphrodite smiled. "Home, huh?"

'Dite took a moment to smile, her head tilting just a little. "I'm glad you can call this place home. You're . . . almost like family. And of course we love you for who you are, Sweet Pea. You're a wonderful person."
no subject
Karla responded to the rest of 'Dite's words with a hug, taking down all of her shields so 'Dite could feel all of her friendship and affection and gratitude. "I trust you, 'Dite," was all she said. "I trust you."
Hey, she'd had three months to think about their conversation. Three months and an incentive to think about things unrelated to babies.

"You'll have to come give me details this week, okay?" She pulled away, smiling. "Now, go on. Go make George's jaw hit the ground." Wink.
