Covent Garden Flowers, Tuesday

Ino had the music turned way up today when she got to work after her first period class. Ugh. Gaaah. Maybe turning the music up loud enough to distract her from thinking about any of that while she swept and rearranged some of the floor displays and sang as she worked.

And maybe danced. The broom made an excellent partner, shush.

She liked the idea that Monday's Minion (yes, she knew it was Joan, but Monday's Minion had a more entertaining ring to it in her current mood) had written in the notes, too. Her response was quickly scribbled out and added to the rest.

I like it! But maybe after spring break? By the time all of us see these notes, it'll already be vacation!

Jaime had actually come in for some flowers, but he forgot that when he spotted Ino dancing. He was just going to watch her and smirk until she decided to stop. It was pretty amusing, after all.

Ino wasn’t so busy dancing and singing (at least she had talent at both? Even if her partner was a broom?) that she failed to notice the smirky presence in the store.

Debating her options meant Ino was going to finish her current song before deigning to acknowledge him.

“Hi Jaime!” she said impishly, tucking the broom behind her back. What dancing? There had been no dancing!

"Well, hello there, Ino," Jaime continued smirking. "How's your day going?" Pretty well from the looks of things.

It was called avoidance through distraction. Ino was pretty good at that.

"Not baaad," she sang, sticking her tongue out at him. "Your face is going to freeze that way."

Jaime just laughed. "If only I'd brought a camera," he lamented.

"Anyway, how was your Valentine's Day and stuff?" He'd get up to why he was here in a bit. Banter took priority, after all.

Banter always took priority.

... Unless it was life or death.

Ino raised one eyebrow. "My Valentine's Day?" she laughed. "Was sorta spent napping, pretty much."

On Zack. While he napped on her floor.

Shush.

"Awww, that sounds boring. I would have thought you'd have gone to the dance." He smirked. "Considering how much you seem to enjoy it."

Ino's eyebrow arched a teeny bit more.

"The dance was the day before the actual day," she pointed out, amused. "Maybe check your calendar before mocking my social life, hmm? I was at the dance."

Jaime rolled his eyes. "You might remember I oh-so-precisely asked about your Valentine's Day and stuff." Nice recovery, Jaime.

"My stuff," she looked amused at that, "went pretty awesomely. Despite radio getting a few key things wrong, but even that is funny."

"Oh? I ~~was moping~~ didn't hear it. What did they saaaay?"

She danced around the counter to put the broom aside.

"Radio said that me and Zack went on a daaate. And then asked 'bout it again the next night."

"Oh? And what did you do if you didn't go on a date with Zach?" Jaime asked, actually curious.

"We met up at the dance and talked for a bit," she said, holding up one finger. "And then we danced a little."

Danced like they'd been dating for ages.

"Oh, well, radio's silly." Jaime might have suggested otherwise if he'd been there... Except that then chances were that radio might well have accused him of going on a date with someone he certainly wasn't. So he'd agree with her.

"Very silly!" she said, beaming and happy he'd agreed with her. "And it was funny 'cause he was all 'did you know we were on a date' the next day at me and stuff."

A beat.

"What 'bout your Valentine's Day and stuuuff?"

"I didn't really do anything." Especially not moping.

"But at least you could laugh about it. I think I'd end up embarrassed and stuff if something like that happened to me."

"Awww," she said, wrinkling her nose cheerfully at him. "You can't get embarrassed by the squirrels. They're super cute and stuff but sometimes they're," totally right, "completely wrong. As long as the person you're with is clear on what was really going on, right?"

"Yeah, them and everyone else who listens to the little rodents," Jaime sighed. "Because you don't want people getting the ~~right~~ wrong idea, right?"

Ino laughed, leaning over to rest her elbows on the counter. "If they're your friends then they'll come ask, yeah? And if not--why bother caring what they think?"

"I don't know. Because, you know!" Jaime threw his hands up a bit helplessly. He just did. He was a teenager!

"But, fortunately, I don't have to deal with that sort of thing."

"No girl you like?" Ino asked archly. "Or boy, if you swing that way."

"No girl I like," Jaime agreed.

He really needed to practice lying. He sucked at it.

Yeah, he did.

Ino eyed him.

"You suuure about that one?"

"Of course I'm sure!" Jaime frowned at her just a bit. "What kind of question is that?" Didn't he look sure? (He totally didn't...)

"I don't think you're very sure," she teased, tapping one finger against the counter idly.

"I mean, what's a boy like you doing in a flower shop anyway, hm?"

"Oh, yeah!" That reminded him! "I, um, sort of got some candy from a friend of mine," just a friend, "over the weekend, but I forgot to get her anything. I figured flowers might be a good idea."

"Does she got a naaame?" Ino asked innocently.

Really. Honestly.

"Momoko," Jaime answered. "So probably something pink..."

"And then... I've got to get some chocolates or something for Dinah."

His life was so complicated.

Ino was just going to nonchalantly wander over to some of the pink flowers.

"Momoko? She's pretty cute, huh?"

"She is," Jaime agreed absently. "I might even go so far as to call her adorable."

"So... what do you think a good pick for her would be?"

Oooooh.

Ino grinned merrily as she picked out a few flowers. No, he wasn't really going to be getting a choice here.

"How 'bout a bouquet of pink camellia, pink hyacinth and, well, this flower is just known as 'pink'."

Ino was a bad bad person.

Those flowers meant, respectively: longing, playful joy (which was pure Momoko), and pure affection.

Bad person, yes.

"Super cute, huh? And totally more creative than roses."

"And totally Momoko," Jaime agreed with a laugh.

He wouldn't be laughing if he ever found out what they meant, though.

"You're the best, Ino."

"I know," she said, grinning at him. "Nut it's nice to get confirmation of my awesomeness."

"Anything I can do to pay you back? I mean, other than paying for the flowers."

"mmm," Ino hummed thoughtfully, while rattling off the price of his flowers. "Don't suppose you'd let me get back to you on that one?"

It never hurt to have a favour stored up, really.

"Sure," Jaime waved magnanimously. "You know where to find me if you need something."

"Funny how that works out," she said lightly. "Let me know what Momoko thinks of the flowers, huh?"

If, you know, she didn't just happen to stop by herself.

"I'm sure she'll love them," Jaime assured Ino with a grin. "You're good at this, after all."

He blinked, a thought striking him.

"Right?"

"Very good at it," she assured him. "Grew up learnin' flowers. My mom runs a flowershop."

"Then I suppose I have to trust you, huh?" Jaime figured Ino wouldn't mess him up on something like this.

She was helping him. Totally not messing him up at all.

Her smile was brilliant. "Absolutely," Ino said, "and I don't say that lightly."

Well, with flowers she did. But she was telling the truth.

Jaime nodded. "Thanks again. And I won't forget I owe you one."

Unless someone ended up telling him what these particular flowers meant. Because there was no way he'd believe it was a coincidence...

It wasn't, of course, which made that part of the fun.

"Shoo," she said, waving him off. "I'll look you up when I got something in mind." Or when she felt like it.

Or... whenever, really.

"See you around, Ino!" Jaime waved as he tucked the flowers under one arm and strode out of the shop.

If you'd rather avoid the blonde singing her heart out.

I am way too easily amused this morning.
