Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

Gah. Where had the time gone? Karla had two finals tomorrow and Opening Night for their production of Richard III. She was so glad that she didn't have a bigger role in the play, the way she'd had for the first two--between spending four months in Ender's world and all of the other craziness of this semester, she barely felt prepared the part she had now, never mind anything larger.

Hopefully no one would notice Karla mumbling to herself all day. Between making sure she had her lines down perfectly and brushing up on her Law and Justice notes, Karla had a lot of studying to do.

Leda, armed with unenchanted Gingerbread cookies, poked her head into the shop.

"Heeeey, Karla." She was dressed in her usual punkish way, but the clothes seemed newer, and possibly more expensive than usual. And only recently punkified.

Leda didn't mind in the least. Karla would hopefully be pleased with what she found. Leda was whole, and healthy. If, maybe a little bittersweet at some of her recently returned memories.

"I have brought you baked goods." she said, holding up the cookies. "And a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying life."

Leda placed the plate of cookies on the counter, and leaned against same. "Let's see, where to begin? I know they say 'the beginning', but in my case it's not so easy to locate. Uh, well first, you were more right than you know about Crystaviel. I'm pretty sure she was trying to either corrupt, or destroy me. I'm not certain but I suspect she knew about the other big thing I recently found out. Or, remembered." She sighed. "I'm the Heir to the Throne of Faery, formerly known as Lost."

"That was part of the memories I regained. She's been hunting me since I was little, and I think she might have seen the birthmark on my shoulder in gym class. She started being my friend about then."

Leda picked up one of the cookies and broke off an arm, but didn't eat any of it right away. "My parents, my real parents I mean, were the rulers of Faery. They were Seelie, which...I dunno what it used to mean, but nowadays it means progressive. They wanted more communication and trade with humans. And the Unseelie disagreed. Violently. When I was about four or five we fled to Bordertown, and they were killed. I got away, and started living on the streets. I was almost feral for awhile."

Leda squeezed Karla's hand gratefully, noting to herself that while she did indeed still love her, it was more of a friend/sisterly kind of thing now.

"You remember me telling you about a guy named Mooner? He found me, sleeping in the backyard of Castle Pup. He got me to open up, a little. Then Ron showed up, and he kind of finished the job. I hadn't spoken a word since my parents' death. For years everyone just figured I was mute. Then after Castle Pup burned down and I was living with the couple who owned a bookstore, Ron showed up at the back door. Some stupid, rich Elf bitch had put a curse on him, tried to turn him into a dog. But Bordertown magic being unpredictable, it only went half way. Turned him into kind of a Werewolf. I had to talk to get him to stay. I think we helped each other."

This had been, only about a year ago calendar-wise.

"Well it's a lot more reliable actually in Faery. Bordertown itself is a mix of the Human and Faery worlds, so magic and technology are both kinda wonky. But yes you may be amused."

The cookies really had turned out well. She was quite pleased with them. "So, where was I? Oh yeah. Wolfboy and I were almost inseparable for a long time. Then Crystaviel figured out who I was, and I got grabbed. When Wolfboy and some others came to rescue me and our friends, I got hit with a spell that sent me ten years back in time. I didn't understand that's what happened at the time of course. Remember how you did that web thing, and it, what, folded in on itself or something?"

"Didn't you say it was confusing? I thought you said the strands kept going in circles or something? Figures I get all my memories back and the details of recent stuff get all hazy."

"It's because of that spell. I wound up being in two places at the same time. I met Ron and Mooner and the rest of the residents of Castle Pup when I was a little kid. Then I got sent back in time, forgot all about that, and met them all again when I wound up being the one who founded Castle Pup in the first place."

"Yeah, ten by now I think. It really confused the folks looking for the lost heir. Everyone thought the spell that got me was supposed to make someone ten years younger. They were going for a non-violent way to deal with the kids who grabbed me. But I got hit by accident and they thought I'd been regressed past conception."

"When I went back to Bordertown, I ran into Wolfboy. He took me out to the Never Never to look for supplies and stuff he could sell. While we were out there I got sick...withdrawal. I almost died, but some Wild Elves healed me. The de-tox was bad, but it left me clean, and burned through all the blocks in my memory.

"Then I had to play a game with them to get Wolfboy back. They wanted to keep him as a pet."

"Some Elves don't see humans that way." Leda said sourly. "For the record there are a lot of Elves that are really cool. Anyway, they put a spell on him that turned him back human. But it came with this geas that made him all docile and obedient to them. I had to convince him to give up being human so he could be free. I tried everything to get through to him. In the end it was telling him I was Florida, that's what they called me when I was little, that did it.

"The weird thing about all that was that he'd brought me out to the Never Never to abandon me. He blamed me for Florida's death cause I turned him into Wolfboy. He can't speak, so he couldn't warn her, me about the spell."
