She was singing along with the radio as she reread her notes on her family techniques. Ino was going to have to find some way to practice some of it but... she wasn’t sure how well that’d work while on the island.

Another thing to ponder, and Ino getting rather sick of things she had to think about. Why couldn’t anything be easy? Fixable! Simple to accomplish! Was that really too much to ask?

It apparently was. Ino was tugged from her studying, sometime late afternoon, near the tail-end of hershift, by the sound of her phone ringing. “Afternoon!” she chirped. And got her sensei on the other end of the line. //Asuma-sensei? What’s up?//

And then she didn’t have time to brood because Asuma-sensei was in a mood and quizzing her on anything and everything—from things in Fandom to how to take out a group of enemies the most efficient way using her skillset. After the first few questions where she fumbled the ball out of surprise, Ino settled in, wondering at what his phone bill was going to look like, and devoted herself to answering the questions as best she could. And wondering if he’d tell her why at the end of it.

Ino was guessing not.

Triela swung by early in the afternoon. And given how much use she had (or didn't have) for flowers, it was probably a pretty easy guess that she was there for something other than shopping.

Like catching up with a friend.

Ino tilted her head at Triela and raised one eyebrow. "You cannot seriously be here for shopping."

It was an observation more than anything else.

"Maybe I've got a mission that requires me to buy flowers," Triela countered.

Even though it was obvious to everyone that it wasn't the case.

She looked amused.

"Are you being ordered out on a date, then?"

That drew a grimace. "That one already happened." She didn't look too upset, though. It hadn't been awful, after all.

"Ooooh!" Her eyes lit up. "With who did you wind up going?"

"Jak." Triela almost even smiled in memory.

"Ooooh, grumpy guy." That was, sadly, about the extent of Ino's knowledge of him, yes. "He a good date?"

"Not bad," Triela shrugged noncommittally. "He kept getting distracted," she hadn't noticed by what. "But he's pretty good company." Didn't demand small talk. Had good tactical senses.

She'd actually almost enjoyed it.

Ino just shook her head.

And grinned.

"You should get him flowers!"

Braaat.

"Flowers," Triela repeated with an amused smirk. "I don't think he's a flowers sort of guy..." And Triela wasn't a flowers kind of girl, so...

"I had to try," she pointed out. "I mean, me being a flower minion and all today."

"And a troublemaker," Triela added helpfully.

Ino blinked wide eyes at her.

"Who is spreading such awful lies 'bout me?"

"I think maybe anyone who has eyes and has spent more than fifteen minutes in your presence," Triela countered with a friendly grin.

"I am innocent," she insisted. "I can totally pass for at least thirty minutes before people start to suspect."

"Well... you are better at that than I am," Triela had to admit.

"More practice," she said lightly. "You been havin' any issues?"

"Not really. I'm getting better at it, and since I'm not getting any missions these days, it's not like it matters all that much..."

Yeah, it was pretty obvious how thrilled she was by that.

"It's boooring without work, ain't it?"

Ino seriously agreed.

"Very boring," Triela huffed. "And it's not even for any good reason! I'm used to moving in heels and a skirt now."

Well, mostly.

Kinda.

Ino considered Triela and wondered at the validity of that claim.

"Should I ask you to prove it?"

"You got a mission?" Triela asked. She tried not to sound too hopeful.

Ino considered her thoughtfully for a long moment.

"Not at this very moment," she had to admit, holding up one hand. "But, you know, I might have use for you at some point if you ain't got a problem with unofficial missions."

A complex expression flitted across Triela's face, half grimace and half grin. "If they're not going to assign me official missions," she muttered, "I'll take what I can get."

Her Conditioning allowed quite a bit of leeway for 'training', and as long as any extra missions didn't bring her into conflict with the Agency's agenda... Well.

"Your Conditioning goin' to be a problem?" she asked bluntly.

Triela shook her head. "Not unless you ask me to act against the Agency, which would mean doing something in my world. Or ask me to give up information I'm not allowed to."

She had a much better grasp of her limits than she used to.

"Oh," she said, grinning a bit. "I think I can work with those limits."

Eaaasily.

"Probably," Triela agreed with a matching grin. "You are rather clever, after all."

"Is that a real compliment?" she asked, bemused. "From you?"

Triela quirked an eyebrow and smirked. "Probably just your imagination."

Yes. Yes it was.
