Sushi Station, Monday evening

Kate had specifically asked that they didn't go to Il Pollo, so Leto had suggested sushi. Raw fish was still something he found a little odd, but it was the last time he would be able to try it in a long time.

It was also the last time he would have dinner with Kate, at least for a very long time. He picked up the menu.

"What would you like?"

[Leto is here with Kate obviously, but Sushi Station is open for you sushi needs]

"I don't know," Kate replied, eyeing her own menu. "I'm kinda easy when it comes to sushi, 'cause I like most of it." Beat. "Or, maybe that makes me difficult, because I can't choose."

"Random choice?" Leto suggested. "I could choose for you, but then I don't want to be accused of choosing the wrong thing."

"You really think I'd waste time on accusations like that?"

The 'today of all days' was heavily implied.

"You can choose for me. I don't care."

And today of all days Leto wasn't going to point out that Kate was rather good at pointless arguments, especially when she felt emotionally vulnerable.

"Then I suggest we get a large plate of mixed sushi to share."

That conversation wouldn't have ended at all well. Good thing they were being smarter than that.

"Sounds good to me," Kate decided. Then she smirked a bit. "You know, I think this is the most date-like thing we've ever had."

He thought for a moment, then grinned. "Yes, you're right. Well, better late than never, I guess."

"Well, I guess it even makes sense," she noted, a little wryly. "I mean, I think we've kinda been going backwards the whole time."

[future_sandworm]

"Backwards?" Leto said.

[vanillajello]

"Yeah. I mean, there's this pattern to how... relationships go. I think we've pretty much done that, but backwards."

[future_sandworm]

He grinned. "Yes. I think I quite approve of that." He paused. "But directions might change, at least a little. When the timelines allow it, you will be welcome to visit Arrakis."

"Mm. I think I'd like that."

If she seemed a little hesitant – which probably wouldn't have been obvious to anyone but him – well, it was a complicated thing. Not the visiting, but... It just was.

"See where you came from."

[future_sandworm]

"I've seen where you came from after all."

Things could be complicated; he wasn't going to bother commenting on that.

"Exactly." She smirked faintly at the memory. "Fun times."

"Send your family my regards," he added cheerfully, "And let them know I appreciated their hospitality."

"And the threats and the flirting," Kate snorted. "Yeah, I'll tell them." She paused. "They did actually like you, you know."

[future_sandworm]

"And I liked them," he laughed. "I might have got worse threats from a Fremen father." If he overlooked the fact that he was the son of Muad'Dib.

"Mm, well, it was still embarrassing for me, at least. But, whatever. That's almost ancient history by now."
