Atlas Gym - Tuesday

The sound system in the gym was broken. That meant there was no blasting music to drown out Jessi's shouted instructions from the Tae Bo classes that took up most of Tuesday.

And that meant that Rose was about to go into the damn room and duct tape Jessi's mouth shut so she never had to hear "And punch! Punch! Two-three-four! Now kick! Bring that knee up! You're doing so good!!" Seriously, it was bad enough talking to Jessi, but to hear her teach her high-pitched class was way too much for anyone to handle.

This was why Rose was outside the gym in the sunshine. She'd even brought out the lost and found to sort out (and see if there was anything in there she could appropriate), but really she was just enjoying the sunshine.

Kennedy was pretty much over hanging out in an abruptly half-vacated room and being annoyed at the lack of Hellmouthy news by early in the afternoon, and an aimless trip into town seemed like a good idea.

A shopping trip to Inks 'n' Holes later she spotted Rose outside the gym and made a quick side trip to the Perk before returning with a couple of blended mochas. "Hey. What are you, ransacking people's stuff?"

"Hell yes," Rose replied, giving Kennedy a bit of a smile. "They leave it here for too long, and I get to go through it and see what I want." She pulled out a rainbow legwarmer and made a face. "And what needs to be burned."

"Yeah, that definitely needs to go." Holy God, that thing was hideous. Kennedy held out one of the drinks, still staring at the legwarmer in horror. "The question is, is anything in there worth keeping?"

The legwarmer was flung into the pile of castoffs, and Rose took the drink with a grin. "You're so my hero, thank you."

She studied the box with a wrinkled nose. "Eh, there's usually some good training clothes I can use. Mostly it's an excuse to sit out in the sun and avoid going inside."

"Because inside lies the horror that is Jessi," Kennedy guessed; she'd come by enough to get wind of someone's reputation. She leaned against the wall, hooking the thumb of her free hand through her belt loop. "Caffeine-heroing is a little low on the scale, but it'll do for now, and by the way, we are so going shopping for your graduation present at some point. You're sticking around for a while, right? You better be. People taking off right away is lame."

"Hey, I'm just trying to make sure you get your daily hero quotient," Rose teased but rolled her eyes a little at Kennedy's comment. "Yeah, she's being her normal obnoxious self, and I'm trying not to punch her."

She considered the rest, shaking her hair back as she looked up into the sun. "Ugh, so lame. But I'm here til August. They didn't want me back until just before my trials so you have the delight of my company for months now."

"Maybe you should punch her," Kennedy mused, because she was all about not encouraging bad ideas. Really.

...not that she knew a thing about obnoxious. What?

She did relax a little, though, and flashed Rose a thumbs up as she took a sip of her drink. "From where I stand, that's pretty awesome. I mean, I know you want to get back into things and all, but personally I'm glad you'll be sticking around."

The mention of trials didn't do much to help her keep the trace of envy out of her voice at all.

Someone had demanded wanted more walkies, and so here came Emma, trailing after a Jack Russell terrier puppy who was busy exploring.

"I come bearing splendid company!" she called. "And a Jack, too."

And Rose couldn't keep herself from laughing. Even if it might insult Jack's dignity. "A cute Jack," she agreed. "How's he taking his, ah, changes?"

"Well, someone seems to think it's an excuse to jump on my bed whenever he likes," Emma grumbled, as Jack ran over to demand Rose pay attention to him, small silver disk jingling from his blue collar. "I hope you don't mind, I put your name on his tag too. He keeps running off at the most inconvenient moment. Usually when he smells food."

"Like someone doesn't jump on your bed anyway," Rose teased, reaching out to offer pets and ear scratches to Jack. "He's still demanding, huh. Look at me being surprised. Yeah, totally don't mind. Feel free to call me to get him too if you need-" she put hands over Jack's ears "-puppy freedom."

"Having a dog helping himself to my pillow is much different from Jack pouncing on me," Emma pointed out. "But I might take you up on that, and soon."

Dimitri completely saw her first. Mainly because she was difficult to miss as he turned the corner on his way to the gym.

Still, Dimitri didn't know what she was up to with the whole working outside thing. Not that he was going to ask outright, he let the look on his face ask for him as he approached.

Sure, but he was looking for her, and she was very busy...working. yes. Which was why she took a moment to notice him what with the eyes closed in the sunshine thing.

The look on his face was amusing though, and Rose shook her head. "I'm good advertising," she told him.

"You're sitting outside of the gym advertising...physical fitness?" Dimitri didn't look like he believed this.

Or that this was what she'd be advertising.

Rose shook her head, laughing a little. "Gotta admit it's an awesome idea."

Though she wasn't sure if she wanted to know what he thought she'd be advertising.

"Awesome," she repeated, snickering at Dimitri's attempt at slang. It was adorable, really. "You should use that more often." But at the question, she made a face. "Sound system wasn't working, and all I can hear in there is Jessi thinking she's the shit."
