Covent Garden Flowers :: Thursday, May 20
Vida was getting ready to head downstairs to open the shop for the day when she heard a loud chorus of singing begin:
I GOTTA TAKE A LITTLE TIME, A LITTLE TIME TO THINK THINGS OVER
I BETTER READ BETWEEN THE LINES IN CASE I NEED IT WHEN I'M OLDER
"What in gay hell?" she muttered, glancing in the mirror one last time to make sure her hair was straight before heading down the stairs to investigate.
NOW THIS MOUNTAIN I MUST CLIMB FEELS LIKE A WORLD UPON MY SHOULDERS
I THROUGH THE CLOUDS I SEE LOVE SHINE IT KEEPS ME WARM AS LIFE GROWS COLDER
She stopped and just stared when she stepped into the shop. The coolers were open and the flowers had spilled out, leaves linked around each other as they swayed in time to the song.
IN MY LIFE THERE'S BEEN HEARTACHE AND PAIN, I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN FACE IT AGAIN
CAN'T STOP NOW, I'VE TRAVELED SO FAR TO CHANGE THIS LONELY LIFE
I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IS, I WANT YOU TO SHOW ME
I WANNA FEEL WHAT LOVE IS, I KNOW YOU CAN SHOW ME
The flowers then noticed Vida and began a chorus of "VIDA!" as they all clamored for her attention.
Vida clapped her hands in delight. "Well, pumpkins," she said. "I think this calls for a sale today so we can get all you enchanting chanteurs in the hands of young lovers. What do you think of that?"
The flowers erupted into cheers, tossing their petals into the air.
