Serenity Cove, Thursday Evening

Leda had used her lesson of earlier today to make a bonfire down on the beach. She had also gotten foodstuffs and drinks and such and those torches that kept bugs away, and all sorts of stuff. All for a party for a certain wee green frog.

Like a mingling fiend before the birthday boy gets here.

James arrived late ~~because the Mun missed this~~ to celebrate the birth of his new friend the other day, boggling that it wasn't celebrated at Midsummer like everyone else's.

"Hi." Leda waved. "Here for the party?"

he smiled. "That I am."

"Glad to see ya. I'm Leda."

"I have heard of you. //May your day be blessed//," he said in Midkemian Elvish.

Leda wasn't familiar with the dialect, but it sounded similar to Elvish of her world. "//Pardon?//" she asked in her own language. "Something about a good day right?"

Clear as mud. "Yes. You don't sound Midkemian," he said, looking for the tell-tale ears of an elf.

She moved with grace, but not like the elves he'd seen around Elvendar, or the moredhel in the forests north.

Oh she had the ears all right. Though the punkish dyed hair might throw one off. Her eyes were silver, and she was shorter than the average elf.

"No I'm from Faerie. Well I was born there, but I grew up in Bordertown."

"I take it that neither place is on this world? I'm not a local, either," he stated flatly. Other-worlders were not too uncommon back home.

"Nope. Bordertown's right on the border between Earth and Faerie. What're the Elves where you're from like?"

"They are more....earthy," he said, looking away from her hair. "They have a city in the trees and are excellent hunters." He could tell some stories, told to him by Martin.

"Are they, human friendly?" Leda asked. The last Elves she'd met like that saw humans as pets at best.

"Mostly," he said with a grin. "they're not exactly fond of people who aren't elves, but their neighbors are rather militant."

"Sounds a bit like home." she grimaced. "Parts of it anyway. Lemme guess, the nearby humans don't like them?"

"There really aren't many nearby, and I hven't asked how the feel about it," he said, dryly. "There's not a lot of people crossing kingdoms."

"So, what are their neighbors militant about?"

"Mostly killing each other," he said with a shrug.

"Figures. At least we've got a ceasefire back home."

"It has been quiet for the past few years," he stated. It was a welcome change.

"Oh cool then. So, friend of Robin's, I didn't get your name."

"James," he said. "Squire James to His Highness Prince Arutha con Doin of the Kingdom of the Isles." He bowed, formally.

Leda curtsied. "Well if we're being formal I guess I should...well name wise that'd be complicated since I've got a few. But and introduction like that deserves fair play. I am Leda, Crown Princess of Faerie, at your service."

"Good to meet you, Your Highness," he said, without scorn, sarcasm, or guile. He'd been around royalty for a few years now, and it was not something that fazed him.

Which Leda appreciated. She still held to her anarchist ideals. Which should make her reign an interesting one. "Oh just call me Leda. The titles are for the folks who believe in them, or don't know me."

As long as she didn't randomly kill people due to paranoia, she'd be better than some rulers that James had outlived.

"Titles are useful at times," he pointed out. "Mostly, they're a mouthful for daily living, unless it's a state dinner."

"Specially Elves from my world. They've usually got pretty long names."

He laughed. "Most people do, with titles and such."

"Oh but even your ordinary schmo Elf has a really long name. Well 'cept for the Soho kids."

James was chalking his unfamiliarity with her language to her using Elven words with which he was unfamiliar, due to dialect.

"What's in a name, really?" He would be moving away from names and lingo.

"In B-Town it can mean everything. But we usually choose our own there."

There's all sorts of ~~moddable~~ goodies! The drinks are all non-alcoholic I'm afraid. Though if you wish you can byob.

Also there's cake. Chocolate cake of course.

Where there was food, there was a Karla. Giving longing to the chocolate cake they couldn't touch until Robin arrived, Karla filled up her plate with tons of different snacks instead.

"You know? In retrospect, maybe I should have gotten a karaoke machine."

"Why?" Karla asked, before taking a sip of juice.

"Cause Robin likes to sing. I guess I do too. And I forgot to suggest he bring his guitar."

"Too bad I hadn't vanished anything like that," Karla said. "Or I'd call it in for him to use. But I can get your musical squeezy-box if that'll help."

"I can make it so it plays out loud, so that might work yeah. And the sand won't fuck it up."

Say hello to the newly 17 year old Frog.

Robin had gotten a call from Leda about a gathering at the beach.

She didn't tell him said gathering was for him.

He gaped in surprise when he saw what was up.

"Happy birthday, Robin!" Karla cheered.

Robin wasn't quite the right size for a tackle glomp, but he was quite proficient of a hop up or through the air to his target for a hug. After giving Leda said treatment, he went for Karla.

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome," Karla said, laughing. "You made it to mine, didn't you? Fair is fair!"

It's what birthdays are all about!

Knowing that Robin liked music, Karla's gift was a wrapped bundle of sheet music from Kaeleer.

Robin gleefully unwrapped the present (with Muppety gusto). "Oh wow! Thank you!"

"You're welcome," Karla said, beaming. "I'm glad you like them!"
