JGOB [Tuesday afternoon]

After cleaning himself up and spending some time brooding collecting his thoughts, Max decided he needed to get out. Feel the sun on his face, the wind in his hair, and all that stuff.

Also, he needed to acquire a large quantity of pastries. So he walked over to JGOB and ordered two of everything. The glare he'd given the poor girl behind the counter when she hesitated was enough to get a stack of large boxes filled without any comment.

He then stomped strode over to a table and set the precarious stack of boxes on top of it. His emotions were still roiling, but his stomach had settled enough to eat.

And junk food was always comforting.

"At least those are things I can do easily," she said with a half smile.

"Not everyone can," Max pointed out. "It's a gift."

That got a skeptical look. "I think it is not as difficult as you make that sound."

Max chuckled. "Ask around sometime. See who else worries about me."

Millie frowned. "Perhaps you underestimate how much you are cared for. I'm sure many people do."

She, on the other hand, could disappear and, as long as the store remained open and the checks continued, would hardly be missed.

"I'm good at reading people," Max countered with an amused grin. It didn't bother him, really.

"Oh really?" She raised an eyebrow at him. "And what do your amazing skills tell you about me?"

"That you are a rare person," Max said. An oddly innocent one.

She rolled her eyes and laughed. "Well, I'm certainly the only one here from Series 10 or 12. I suppose that makes me rare."

"See, I told you I was good."

"Quite the talent," she said teasingly.

"I know. It's very impressive."

"And what other talents do you have?" she asked innocently. Or mostly so.

"I think you might be familiar with a few of them," Max pointed out.

She blinked at him, then her mouth opened in a silent 'O' and she blushed furiously. "Oh. Oh yes. I believe I am."

Max just laughed. "It's good talking to you, Millie. Relaxing."

"I think you just enjoy seeing how many times you can make me blush," Millie said with a smile.

And he could embarrass her all he wanted if it got him to laugh.

"Maybe," Max allowed. "I never claimed to be a good man."

"Better than you think," Millie said with a smile. "And persuasive. Though not persuasive enough to get me to run in these skirts."

"We'll see," Max teased.

She smoothed the multiple layers of ankle length skirts and gave him a Look. "I dare you."

Max just leaned back and nibbled oh-so-casually on a pastry.

"We'll just see then," Millie said with a satisfied grin.
