Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Thursday

Cable wasn't the kind to hide after debacles like the one a while ago, especially not after several years spent at Fandom. What he was concerned about was Jan's wellbeing, and as a result, he'd been spending rather a lot of time fixing up some new safety protocols just to ensure nothing would go terribly wrong.

He was relying on those now; she was upstairs, watching new episodes of the cartoons Wade kept insisting she absolutely had to watch. It was... a little educational. A little.

It also left Cable some time to talk to Irene on the phone about Rumekistan's current plans for industrial expansion. Which he did from behind his desk at Wellspring, sagged back in his comfortable chair.

"Morning, boss," Price said, wandering in. "Planning on using the range today. Anything special I should know?"

Price chuckled. "Just about one of the places I've not been shot," he said. "Am I allowed to have other people in there? Or do they need specific permission as well, even if they're under my supervision?"

Price smirked a bit, but then sobered quickly. "I've only ever broken one thing I didn't intend to," he said. "Not just professional pride, but a matter of ethics."

"Good man," Price said. "It's not extra fancy, is it? I mean, one of those hologram systems or something. I prefer my shooting at paper targets, mainly."

Ashley came in to meet Price as planned. She stopped to greet Cable.

"Morning, Mayor. How's everything going?"

"Yup," Ash confirmed. "Were you affected by whatever was going on last Friday?"

Ashley smirked. "You weren't alone. Captain Price and I are here to re-assert our love of firearms."

She hoped Cable had missed the whole demonstration thing last week. How embarrassing.

At least they had taken the illegal drug use off the premises?

"I think I can manage that," Ash promised.

Price waited in the doorway to the shooting range, safety glasses on and ear protection around his neck, awaiting being put on properly.

His pistol was holstered, safety on. He wasn't a dummy.

Ashley walked over and set her gun case down. She pulled out her ear and eye protection and put them on before greeting Price.

"Captain," she said. "How are you today?"

"Doing quite fine," Price said, heading over to watch her a bit. "Pretty impressive case. Must be for all those pests you get on the farm."

Hey, he had a sense of humor after all.

The joke made her laugh. "Something like that."

Ashley dealt with a lot of pests at home but they weren't your typical farm nuisances.

"No flowers or protest signs today, right?"

"Not for me," Price said. "Won't see any tomorrow, either, when it's my shift. People are free to protest what they like, in my book. I just believe that world peace is a dream. A beautiful dream, but still only a dream."

"I'm inclined to agree," Ashley said. "Some people and species are just wired for violence. There's nothing we can do to change that."
