Something about the previous day had Jessi insisting on remaining in one of the classrooms, and Dimitri was certainly not complaining about her choice. If he'd known her reasoning, there would be a whole brood of ducklings living in the back room by the afternoon.

With the radio tuned to some old school music, Dimitri took up residence at the desk and checked his email.

I've been sending lots of emails out today. You should ask Rose about hers. I think she's gonna like the attached files. :D

Did Mother ever write you about those pictures? She was happy you had a good birthday, and I think she wants a cowboy hat now. You should get her one! From America!

I can't wait for this year to be over. I look forward to going back to Baia and hanging out and not doing ANYTHING. The WHOLE SUMMER. Just lazing around and enjoying myself. I dyed my hair pink this weekend. I thought you'd like to see a picture of me as I currently am!

Rose laughed, leaning in to try to steal a kiss. "Okay, it's kinda hot when you swear in Russian."

He didn't reject her kiss.

This time.

"What makes you think I was swearing?"

"Probably the frown and the muttering," she pointed out. "The fact you're totally thrilled by my awesome new pics." Rose pulled out her phone and hit the button to turn it on and show him the brand new wallpaper.

Rose really knew how to keep Dimitri frowning. "You could have chosen one where I wasn't in the bath!"

"At least I didn't choose the one with - I guess it's Sonya in there too," she teased. "I just liked the mohawk."

And this was what his sister sent without knowing about...things. "It's too bad I cannot recreate that now."

"Well, not right now," Rose pointed out. "But I bet we could get one with enough soap and stuff."

"It will never happen," Dimitri told her. He was no longer five, these things didn't happen.

"Hey, what's up with saying never?" she asked. "It might happen... I mean, I got pictures of you as a little kid. Anything's possible."

"You got lucky. And Vita is going to hear about sending people pictures of me." Very sternly. Via email.

Rose couldn't help laughing because seriously. "It's not people, it's me."

Shhh, she had special logic.

"She doesn't know you're you," Dimitri pointed out.

"Hey, I'm Rose Hathaway," Rose protested, ~~pretending she was Chuck Bass~~ frowning at him. "She knows that."

"You are. But she hasn't met you to know the full force behind that." And the thing.

"I write emails good," she teased. "Maybe she got the full force that way." Or maybe she missed her big brother more than she wanted to admit to him.

"You write well," he corrected automatically. "So it's possible, but not probable." Much like him ever having crazy hair on purpose.

Rose rolled her eyes at him. "Stop being so pedantic."

"I'm amazed by your vocabulary," Dimitri teased, reaching up to snag hold of a lock of her hair. "Have you been reading the dictionary in your spare time?"

"Yeah, well, I don't have anything but spare time now," she shot back. "Maybe I'm so bored I'm pushed to it."

"Half time is better than no time." Not that she needed the reminder.

"Yeah, I know," Rose agreed with a little shrug.
