It was going to be another hot one today. Loki could tell that when he'd woken up and just felt the sticky heat in the air. The air conditioner would be getting a fucking work out today. If it broke, there'd be hell to pay.

Right now, everything was kosher though. The A/C was working and Loki was propped up behind the desk, reading the latest issue of Guns and Ammo. He missed guns.

"Guns and Ammo, huh?" John said, getting a look at the landlord's choice of reading materials. "I'm gonna bet that means you won't be much help with the broken...everything in my apartment."

"What's broken in your apartment?" Loki asked, not even putting the magazine down.

"Let's see, the dishwasher, microwave, lamp, coffe table - I think everything really summed it up better," John replied, leaning his hip against the desk.

"Jesus fuck, what the hell did you do that everything's broken already?" Loki asked, looking over the magazine now. "It was fine yesterday."

Yeah, he hadn't checked it since Ronon had moved out.

"Hey, it was broken when I got there. Well, everything but the sofa. That thing's super comfy." Because it had been his and was totally the best part of the whole weird basement apartment experience.

"You got any proof of that?" Loki asked, being an ass about it since that's what good landlords did.

"Tall, dark, and scary was the last guy to live there, yeah?" John asked, thinking it hadn't been all that long since he'd seen a Ronon about Fandom.

"Ronon?" Loki asked, nodding. "Yeah, that was him. Sometimes his hot girlfriend was there too. She wanted me but settled for him."

She had not. Poor Lindsay.

"Well, he does tend to get what he wants," John snickered. "But I can finance the repairs so long as they happen. The guy was a sort of ...how do you explain alternate universe relationships in the place?"

"Fucked up?" Loki asked, just going for his default answer. He did put his magazine down to reach for some maintenance forms. "You don't have to pay for the shit. It's in the rental agreement. You can call Ronon and bitch him out though. That'd be fun to hear."

"You know, that would be fun," he agreed, wishing it would be his own Ronon he'd be calling. "If only there was a way to make him fill out the forms."

"Send 'em through a portal?" Loki suggested, shrugging. "The apartment's livable, right? Or do I need to put you up in a hotel room?"

"Please, the last thing I need is another night in the hotel," John said. "I'm good with takeout and laundry's not exactly my favorite activity anyhow." And surely there was a laundromat in town.

"Hey, I could make you bunk with a neighbor," Loki suggested, dropping the maintenance slips in the maintenance man's mailbox. The maintenance man being...him. He'd get to it later.

"There's a hottie on the second floor. Martha Jones? She's a doctor. Fucking hot."

"Yeah? I'll keep an eye out. So far I've mostly spotted guys around." Sadness.

"It's not a sausage fest." Not that he could really contribute to that. "Plenty of womenfolk around. Where you been looking?"

"The wrong places apparently," John replied looking skeptical. "Not that I'm really looking."

"Ah, attached?" Loki asked and made a show of sighing heavily. "So no spankings?"

Yeah, John still wasn't so sure about that. "More like I'd rather not have strangers smacking my ass."

"Strangers?" Loki pretended to be offended. "Fuck you, we're besties now. I take offense to you calling me a stranger."

John couldn't help laughing. "You're going to be my best friend and landlord now? I see that ending well."

"I've done it before," Loki told him, waving a dismissive hand at John's lack of belief. "You don't wanna be my spanking buddy?"

"Fine, but there should be a perk to it, too. Like unlimited pool access."

"Granted," Loki said and smacked his hand like it was a gavel. "You now have unlimited pool access!"

"Sweet!" John liked this besties plan already. "I think I'll sit out there and tell everyone to keep out of the deep end unless they wear those little arm floaties."

"You know that might make 'em come and bitch at me, right?" Loki asked. "And then what am I supposed to say?"

"You can sell them floaties for twenty bucks a pop," John suggested.

"That...is an excellent fucking idea," Loki said sincerely. "Why the fuck didn't I think of that? I need some new video games."

Ugh, bad day.
