The woods, Tuesday, an hour before sunrise

The Teal Deer had been busy. And hungry.

The stone which had thudded into the ground last night had drawn them inexorably in. Not just because of the delicious moss with which the stone was liberally coated. No, the real attraction for the Teal Deer was the words with which the stone was covered. The writing was faded, worn away by wind and weather and the passing of time, but the stone was filled with the spirit of those words and whatever ancient power had inscribed them had been longwinded indeed.

The deer continued to nibble as they'd nibbled all night, finally exposing the remnants of that ancient writing to the starlight.

The air went very still and the Teal Deer froze. One lifted her head, scenting the breeze, ears flickering nervously. A moment passed, two, then they bolted as one, racing away into the trees.

They'd survived in Fandom a long time.

Seconds after they fled, a flash of white light exploded out of the stone, followed by a pulse of power which spread across the island: ever expanding concentric circles with the stone at their heart.

[NFI, NFB. If you think you felt it, you did! The power itself doesn't feel dangerous or threatening, more warm and sort of friendly, but it definitely feels strong and it may feel familiar to those who have powers that relate to the dead.]
