The Perk

After an energetic morning run and a shower, Ashley headed over to the Perk. Her mother's genes apparently kicked in because she decided to order a large cup of tea instead of coffee. She also decided to indulge with a couple of cookies.

She sat at a corner table and sipped her tea while waiting for Captain Price.

[Ash is meeting Price but post is open if anyone else wants to chat or for your own Perk needs!]

Price came in, dressed in long pants and shirt, all drab colors per usual. He had a manilla folder tucked under one arm, which he set down on the table. He held up a finger and said "One moment," before he went to the counter and got himself a coffee.

He came back and sat, and couldn't manage a smile.

"You ever kill anyone, Ashley?" he asked, simply.

Price flipped open the folder, conducting himself like a commanding officer in a debriefing. There was a photo of a craggy faced bearded man with olive skin. "Imran Zakhaev was the target of the first assassination order the British government gave after the conclusion of World War 2. The order was given in 1996, and the two men dispatched by the SAS were a Captain MacMillan, and a Leftenant John Price."

He took a sip of his coffee. "And it's this same order that I'm going to have our students carry out, at least a simulation."

"Selling nuclear material from Chernobyl on the black market," Price said. "He was prepared to give nukes to the enemies of freedom and world peace."

"And it's a pity I didn't," Price said. "I shot, but it only took his arm off. He lived through sheer hellfire in his belly, I imagine. It's how I managed five years in the bloody Gulag."

"Because it's real," Price said. "And I want to see if any of them can make the shot."

He smirked, just a little.

"And honestly, I want to see if any of them refuse to take the shot."

"Never know," Price said. "They all have the capability of surprising us."

He gathered his little folder back up, and shook his head.

"Look at me. You'd think I was trying to brief you for a mission."

Price shook his head. "Now it just reminds me I'm not really a soldier any more," he admitted. "The Captain is practically honorary at this point."

"Yes and no," Price said. "Without the sanctioning, you're really just a... well intentioned patriot with an itch trigger finger."

He smirked, just a little.
