The Beach, Wednesday Evening

The chance of thunderstorms earlier seemed to have dissipated into a really nice night. The type of night that called for spending an evening on the beach. It wasn't too hot for a fire, but Rose hadn't really bothered so much with one, mostly because gathering wood was boring. And sandy.

Instead the water had turned a glassy grey as the sun started to set behind the island, and Rose was considering if there was a need for a swim. She had her swimsuit on but she hadn't yet gotten up - partially because there was a carton of blueberries and raspberries out on the blanket over the sand that needed to be eaten before sand worked their way into them.

Still, swimming was an interesting idea. She glanced over at the girl she'd dragged along. "Gonna go for a swim or do I get to splash you when I get back out?"

Aww look, Jaina had been dragged along without putting up a huge fight. And while she still had shorts on over it, she was even wearing a bathing suit like a good willing participant.

"If we both go, someone might steal the berries," Jaina pointed out helpfully.

"And if I leave you by yourself, you and the berries might get attacked by gremlins," Rose pointed out, smirking. "So I'm just trying to keep you from being gremlin bait."

Jaina stared at her, mouth open slightly. "That's such a low blow, Rose."

And then she was looking around for gremlins, because you never knew, and she never sensed the damn things coming.

The smirk only grew bigger. "Hey, I'm just telling the truth as I see it."

"I know you wouldn't be smirking if you saw any of them," she said. "The sad thing is, it's going to work to get me in the water. I am not getting bitten with this much skin exposed."

"You assume that," she teased, standing up. "But when I'm sitting next to you, I'm damn sure who they're going ot bite."

Jaina sighed as she stood, removing her shorts so she was just in the bathing suit. Which exposed more skin when she was looking for gremlins, sure. "Why did I come out with you again? Remind me."

"Cause I'm awesome and no one can work 30 hours a day in an apartment without going bugfuck insane," Rose teased. She started towards the water and apparently became five years old. "Last one in is a rotten egg!"

"You are so young," Jaina said, shaking her head at her. Not that it stopped her from running towards the water, for the sole reason that it was wrong to just walk into the water and swim. It had to go against a rule somewhere.

Rose couldn't respond for a minute because she was diving and swimming underwater for a few minutes. "I'm rubber and you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks on you!"

Swimming out to meet her and adjusting to the water, Jaina ducked her head under for a moment just to get that out of the way. "Okay, I didn't even do that when I was tiny," she said, mock-disdainfully, and if Rose wasn't tiny herself she knew she'd be opening herself wide for a joke.

Oh, that joke could get made anyway, and Rose grinned at her. "What? You're still growing? When'd that happen."

Jaina splashed at her for that. "I am perfectly happy with my size, thank you."

"And they say size doesn't matter," she teased, splashing back.

Elena had a text on her phone that said Rose was going to be at the beach. Which sounded perfect. She hadn't caught up with Rose in ages, and she'd be going back to Edge soon, so she could use all the beach time she could manage.

She waved at the other two when she got close. "Oh, you brought snacks," she said, noticing the blanket. "A little liquor, and it's a regular party."

"It doesn't! This is what I'm saying!" she laughed, still with the splashing.

None of that was meant dirty.

"Your tiny, tiny size," she laughed, finally ducking under the water to get awaay from the splashing.

"It's a regular party anyway," Rose decided. "Where have you been hiding?"

"Is it a party with three people, or is that more of a gathering?" Jaina wondered, placing her hands on the blanket to lean back comfortably.

Oh, Jaina could wait her out. She stayed still, treading water and watching for when she came back up.

Sneaky, sneaky Rose was swimming around Jaina to try to ambush her with a splash in the ...well, back of the head since that's where she came up.

"The usual," Elena joked. "Dyed my hair black, whined about how no one could understand my paaaaaaaaaain and listened to shitty music for a few weeks. I figured you'd rather not be involved."

Oh, sure, try and sneak up on a Jedi. Of course this meant Jaina was turning more towards her... which meant she got splashed right in the face.

"Okay, that was my fault," she said, wiping the water away with one hand.

"You'd think there'd be a number," Elena mused. "The best I have is, two's company, three's a crowd. Which I never understood. Is that just because the first two are trying to have alone time?"

"Well, I couldn't understand your pain anyway," she smirked. "So you didn't want to have to deal with another jackass telling you just to wear pink and you'll be fine."
