The Perk, Thursday Afternoon

When Sam had left New York, he'd told Peter that he was going back to Fandom to get more of his things, partly because he did plan on doing that, and partly because he liked the way Peter's face lit up at the idea of more of Sam's stuff being in his apartment. What he hadn't mentioned was the feeling he'd been having, drawing him back to Fandom. He wasn't sure how to explain it. He hadn't even been sure that it was real, to be honest. Either way, he was back in town, and getting some coffee was the first thing on his to do list. Maybe a muffin too, while he was at it.

Chuck hadn't exactly been in the best of moods since he started getting the weird dreams about his father, but he brightened considerably when he saw Sam was back in town. "Aww, you missed me."

Sam smiled when he saw Chuck. "Yeah, I realized I couldn't get by without seeing you. How are you?"

"Fine, I suppose," he said with a shrug, not wanting get emo all over Sam at the moment. "How's New York?"

"Busy. It really is a crazy city," Sam said. "I don't know how you're not bored all the time here after living there."

"I've lived there my whole life," Chuck reminded him. "Trust me, I've done everything there is to do there several times."

"I find that hard to believe. There's so much to do," Sam said. "It's good to see the island hasn't collapsed without me here."

"It's only been a few weeks," Chuck said. "You have to give me more time to thoroughly corrupt a place."

"Oh, well, I suppose I can give you more time if you want," Sam teased. "It's good to see you nonetheless. Is everyone else doing okay?"

"Everyone's fine," Chuck assured him. "Don't you think we'd call you if something went wrong?"

"Hopefully?" Sam said. "I don't know, it might fall into that whole 'let's not worry Sam' thing."

Chuck felt Sam could use a few 'let's not worry Sam' moments after some of the stuff he pulled, but Chuck was smart enough not to mention that.

"Well, John Sheppard's back in town?" Chuck said, trying to come up with something. "So it's pretty much a given once something weird happens in town we're going to kill each other. Looking forward to that."

He was totally kidding.

He might have been kidding, but Sam still narrowed his eyes at Chuck. "You could try not killing each other once, really."

"But it's how we show affection for each other," Chuck said with a roll of his eyes. "It's not like I don't come back."

"You've come back so far. That could always change," Sam pointed out. "You never know when he might go weird and you won't, or something. Or when his hair might become sentient and attack you on its own."

"I don't think you're allowed to make fun of people with ridiculous hair," Chuck decided. "Pot calling the kettle black sort of thing."

"My hair isn't ridiculous," Sam said, running his hands over his head self-consciously. "It's getting a little long, but I kind of like it that way."

Chuck smirked. "I was just teasing you. Forget what that feels like already?"

"No, but I suppose the refresher's a good idea," Sam said, laughing. "You'd better not forget what my judging you feels like either."

"I vaguely recall it," Chuck said with a nod. "I slept with some dumb chick in town and when her roommate asked if I was going to stick around I basically told him I had no intention of speaking to her again. You should be proud of how honest I was."

Sam facepalmed and groaned at Chuck, hoping he was exaggerating, but knowing he probably wasn't. "I'd be more proud if you actually talked to the girl again. Or didn't sleep with her at all."

"Relax. She wanted it to be a one night stand," Chuck said. "Honestly, I will never understand why you don't want me to get laid. I would think you'd encourage it. I get really bitchy when I go without."

"I want you to get laid in a healthy manner, with someone you really like," Sam said. "And you can't tell me you really like someone you think is dumb."

"I didn't even know her last name," Chuck admitted. "I do sleep with people I like on occasion, don't worry."

"Did you know her first name at least?" Sam asked. "Or did you not catch that either before falling into bed?"

"I caught it after the body shots and before the sex, thank you," Chuck said. "It was Shelley, and she has a extremely attractive, if scarily tall, roommate named Dimitri."

"Oh my God," Sam said. "Are they dating? Is that why the roommate got pissed? Tell me you didn't steal someone else's girlfriend for a night."

"I didn't steal anybody from anyone. He's seeing Rose," Chuck said, rolling his eyes. "Thanks for always thinking the best of me."

"You're telling me about having sex with a girl and not even getting her full name. This isn't exactly a situation where I can see you in the best light," Sam pointed out.

"Plenty of people do that," Chuck insisted. "And you jumped to conclusions, by the way. Her roommate was glad I was honest about never talking to Shelley again. Said it earned me breakfast."

"You...got breakfast?" Sam asked. "Great, there's someone else in Fandom I'll never understand."

"I'm willing to bet there are more people in this world that think more like me than you," he said. Which was just terrifying. "You're the weird one."

"I think maybe there's an equal amount of us," Sam said. "You know, so we balance each other out."
