Atlas Gym - Friday

Atlas had seen Rose in better moods as she stomped through her duties at the gym. It wasn't anything in particular bugging her. Just the fact that according to radio all sorts of people's dead friends and family had come to the island to visit them, and Rose, who normally hoped that the ghosts would stop coming after her, was left wondering what the fuck. So, you know, no big.

There wasn't really anything to do at the front desk which left Rose spending her day training. Even though a 5am text had canceled formal training today, she was in the mood to kick ass, especially that of the heavy bag that apparently needed to be taught several very violent lessons. Pummeling the bag was great. It kept her from wondering why Mason could visit her as a ghost but not in person. It kept her from wondering what was up with Dimitri being drunk last night and warning her off bees. Yes, not thinking about these things was very, very good.

Even if every few minutes she paused to glance out the doors to see if a sandy-haired boy in a green fleece pullover was out there. He might still come.

A review of his texts from the night before and the terrible spelling of 'training' when he'd canceled on Rose this morning had Dimitri very sober indeed when he arrived at the gym alone. He'd left Ivan to keep sleeping, though part of Dimitri really wanted him to meet Rose since they'd discussed her rather drunkenly, but maybe it was best after he explained.

Or after Rose stopped hitting the bag like it had personally offended her. He hung back, waiting for her to acknowledge him and say something snarky.

If only she could raise a single eyebrow. That would do so much better than any snarky comment she could make.

Still, after ignoring him for long enough that he knew she was ignoring him, Rose turned to Dimitri. "Escaped from the bees?"

She certainly took her time. Dimitri knew this was a sign of just how pissed she was, and still he didn't feel sorry, exactly. He'd wanted to keep his potentially invisible (though the drool on his pillow proved that wrong) friend to himself. The bees, that had simply been stupid.

"Yes, they seem to have disappeared in the night. Along with all the alcohol in my apartment." There, he could admit he'd been drunk. Sort of.

...dammit, she couldn't help snorting at that. "Maybe the bees drank it," she snarked, pulling her ponytail out as she eyed him. "And, hey, I bet they're mean drunks so that would explain the whole warning me off thing."

His eyes looked almost guiltily at her, watching her fix her hair. "I had some unexpected company."

Dimitri didn't know just how to explain this.

"Seems like the whole island did," she agreed as she combed her fingers through her hair. "Russian company, I figure?"

Shhh, she wasn't slightly hurt that he didn't want her to meet his unexpected dead Russian company. That would be silly.

"Yes. An old friend," Dimitri said, glancing down at his feet and suppressing all the associated confusing feelings.

"Cool," Rose said. "You should go hang out with them then. I've got the gym covered."

With a flip of her hair, she bent over to gather it back up in a ponytail. It was no big. Really.

"Fine," Dimitri replied coolly, head snapping up with the realization that Rose was going to be a brat about this. "Then I won't bother inviting you to come meet him."

She looked up in total surprise, her self-pity gone for the moment. "...you'd want me to meet him?" This wasn't one of those things that should be a huge shock to Rose and yet.

"No, it would be foolish when you're so busy here at work," Dimitri returned dryly, still a little focused on her initial reaction to hearing he had a dead visitor.

Rose swallowed and glanced down. "Sorry," she said finally. "After last night, I just figured you didn't want me around. I don't even have a clue who your visitor is."

Dimitri moved closer, reaching out to tilt her chin up to look at him. "Then I can fill you in," he told her, obviously accepting her apology with his tone. "Recall I had a dream about Ivan Zeklos?"

"Ivan Zeklos is here?" she asked, sounding shocked as she put the pieces together. Dead people were one thing, but... "How ...weird."

As always, her eloquence was astounding.

"I had a difficult time accepting it myself," Dimitri added. "But, it seems Fandom is once again showing its odd sense of humor."

"Are you okay?" she checked, reaching for Dimitri's hand. "I mean, you guys got drunk or whatever so it must be sort of good? Does he speak English?"

There was a beat then Rose added. "Okay, yeah, that was a stupid question."

Her admission of the stupid question got him to smile just a little as he took her hand. "I think it's good. He's...Ivan, I never expected to have him back."

There was a small flare of jealousy at not being the most important person to Dimitri right now that even Rose knew was completely out of line, and she pushed it down again and tried to ignore it.

"That's cool. And weird. And - what's he like? You wouldn't tell me before. I get to meet him?"

As though Rose was ever not the most important person to Dimitri. If he had a clue, he'd give it to her.

"Oh, I think I'll let you find out for yourself," Dimitri chuckled a little at the thought. "He'd probably tell you anything I said was a lie."

Seriously, it was weird seeing Dimitri be so easy about someone. Especially when it was a question of being nearly relaxed around a guy who'd been dead for a few years.

"Like you'd ever lie," she pointed out, smirking at him a little. The smirk broadened as she eyed him. "So...rough morning?"

There seemed to be something about having Ivan around that made him more...something. Dimitri couldn't quite put his finger on it.

He could, however, lean down and bring her hand up to his cheek. "If rough means I missed you waking me up, then yes."

Like she could keep from smiling at that comment, stroking her fingers over his cheek. "I meant more like hungover and needing to gulp water, but that'll work too."

"Haven't I told you?" Dimitri teased, "Russians don't get hangovers." Though there had been a lot of water imbibed and a little exercise to keep the blood pumping properly.

"I hate you," she complained, making a face at the teasing.

"You love me," he said smugly, his mood a little more chipper than usual with thoughts of his people meeting. Because of course they would get along and all would be well.

He was denied thoughts of Ivan ever leaving.

"Yeah, well, ask anyone, I'm crazy," she teased, smiling to see him so oddly happy.

He would argue it wasn't so odd when she was around. "Well yes, but today you're not the only one who sees ghosts," Dimitri replied lightly.

Sure, but this was different.

Her smile faded a little as the confusion at the situation overwhelmed her again. "They're not ghosts," she said. "I don't - they're just like normal people. Maybe they'd have black auras like me, but they're not ghosts."

"Really?" It wasn't as though Dimitri had ever seen a ghost to know the difference. "Hmm. That makes it different, then." And somehow it made her even more precious, since she didn't have a 48-hour expiration.

"Also weirder," Rose pointed out. Because seriously. Seriously.

"It's so strange," Dimitri confided, frowning. "It probably didn't help that every time I tried to ask what was going on Ivan encouraged me to drink more and made a wise crack."

"Does that work on you?" she teased. "Cause it sounds like a totally useful technique."

"Oh, don't you learn things from him," Dimitri warned. "I've worked hard to be different since...well." Um.

Rose assumed he meant 'since Ivan died', and she squeezed his hand quickly. "Hey, it's cool. Don't worry."

"If he's a bad influence, I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" Dimitri asked, trying to get back to the teasing place because sadness wasn't allowed.

"You're going to love it," she smirked. "It'll be awesome." Rose paused, looking mischievous. "So...is he cute?"

Dimitri raised a single eyebrow at her question. "Does it matter?"

Which obviously meant yes, very.

"I'm just curious," Rose pointed out. "It's good to know these things before you meet people."

"He's a well-placed Royal," Dimitri told her. "Who never had any trouble getting anyone he wanted. I don't know if he ever needed to be cute, but I'm sure he'd be considered so by your standards."

"My standards," she repeated. "Uh huh. What do you meant by that?"

"I believe I recall you using the same word about me, yes?" Dimitri verified.

"Nah, usually I call you smoking hot," she smirked.

"Then you're going to think Ivan is smoking hot," Dimitri told her, the words always sounding so weird coming out of his mouth.

"So you and Ivan look exactly alike?" Rose asked. "Cause - I don't think I can handle that."

"No..." Dimitri looked confused. "He has short hair. You'll see, okay?"

Eh, you know.
