The Perk, Late Saturday Afternoon
Spending time with an anthropomorphic necklace? Surprisingly not as weird is at it could have been, Kate was finding. Actually, it was like hanging out with an old friend. Or maybe a very patient older brother. Someone who really, really knew her.
It was kind of awesome. (At least when he wasn't making way too observant remarks about her.) And what was more, the necklace had totally charmed the barista at the Perk, and Kate felt like she was one step closer to being served coffee at the place again.
They had a table to themselves by the window, both sitting on the same side so they could lean close towards each other like they were telling secrets. Which, in a sense, they were.
The sound of Kate's laughter was probably loud enough to disturb other patrons, if they were the type to be annoyed by someone else being utterly happy. She didn't care.

"Hey, it's Kate Gregson," he said once he spotted her, "and...friend I don't recognize. Hello, person I don't know."
no subject
"This is N," she said.
"It stands for necklace," he supplied. "She thought it was weird to call me what I am."

"My necklace, to be exact," Kate clarified. "The one with the skull and the bones?"

The necklace saw fit to point out, "Your boyfriend is called Nobody."
"... Dude, you're supposed to be on my team, here."

It was surprisingly easy to forget that the word meant anything other than his name, actually. At least when she wasn't using the meaning to her advantage in word play.
"And from what I've witnessed, he's also really good in b--"
Yeah, that was as far as the necklace got with his contribution to the discussion before Kate clamped her hand over his mouth.

"Well, I suppose that's a good thing," he said through his laughter. "Cuts down on the sexual frustration."

"At least I didn't say anything about the other places?" he offered, and got a thwap on the shoulder for his troubles.

The necklace nudged her arm with his elbow. "No, but we are."

Even the necklace made an eww face at that.

Of course, they had slept together. Actually slept together. But that was like sleeping with Moosh.
Only she was more comfortable with the necklace.
"I mean, N is pretty hot, but... No." Beat. "Wait, you think I'd cheat on my boyfriend?"

Oh, he so didn't know poor Nobody.
no subject
"Yeah, he's... really not that kind of guy," she said. "At all."
The necklace shook his head, quietly amused.

The necklace nodded. "It was kind of a big deal to her."
