"Soooooooooookie," Karla said, ducking her head into Luke's. She hadn't intended on stopping, by, but she'd seen Sookie in the window and realized she needed to spend some quality girl-time with her friend.

And if that required fries, pork chops, and berry cobbler, that was a sacrifice she was willing to make in the name of friendship. "Hi."

Sookie, you may wish to take special notice of the giant grin Karla has sporting.

Yeah, that grin got an eyebrow raise. "Hi there, Miss Sunshine. What's got you so smiley?"

"Why shouldn't I smile? It's a lovely day, I'm going to have lunch with a good friend of mine, I just got a pineapple slushie from T&C--" She might have been able to pull that off if she hadn't started giggling as soon as she said 'pineapple.'

Mother Night. She was in that phase.

"I had a date on Friday," she added innocently.

And now Sookie was just going to hold back a squeal.

She did squeak, though. Just a little. "With Warren?" she asked eagerly, all but bouncing.

"With Warren, yes," Karla said, eyes sparkling. "But you don't want to hear about that. You want to hear about Sunday evening after I got back from Rome with Triela."

She sat down in a booth and took a long sip of slushie. "Should I give you my order first, so there's more time for gossip?" she teased.

"I want to hear about all of it," Sookie corrected, pulling out her notepad. "And shoot. I'll throw it to the guys in the back and this way you'll gossip on a full tummy, at least."

Karla ordered the specials with a side of fries and gleefully waited for Sookie to come back. "Can you sit?" she asked. "Will your boss be angry if we share a booth for awhile?"

"Lacey won't care," she promised, sliding in across from Karla. "I haven't even seen her today. So, spill. What happened?"

"So, we went to Taste of Thai for dinner on Friday," Karla said, fiddling with her straw. The same smile she'd been wearing when she came in hovered on her lips. "We ordered two big appetizer platters--" of which, Warren had gotten maybe a spring roll and two shrimp "--and we both had pineapple curry. He let me steal most of his pineapple chunks, too."

Because Sookie wanted to hear all about the food, yes. "It was just a really nice evening," Karla said. "We laughed and joked and had good conversations..."

And then she switched over to psychic threads for the last bit. *I told him about our trek through his memories back during the fog, when we were chasing Emma. And apologized for it.*

Sookie nodded along, clearly enjoying her friend's happiness and -- well, frankly, until very recently, she hadn't had too many conversations like this. Tara wasn't really the girl-talk kind, after all.

But at the psychic note, she gave Karla a little smile, and replied, << Bobby knows, too. How did Warren take it? >>

*He was okay with it--at least, as much as someone can be in that situation,* Karla answered. It came up because of what Emma said, in the shipyard. About the doctors. She replayed that moment in her mind, in case Sookie hadn't noticed their interaction. *That bothered him a lot and with good reason. So I explained how she knew and told him we did, too. But that under normal circumstances we'd never use something like that against him.*

Sookie shook her head. << Yeah, she...shouldn't have said that. I understand why, but poor Warren. But I'm glad he took it well. For your sake, >> she added. << Since that can't be why you're so smiley. >>

Karla shook her head. *No, not all of it. I mean, dinner was really good, it was! We talked about all sorts of things. There was never that long pause that you get when people have momentarily run out of things say to one another. But that has nothing on what happened Sunday.*

She glanced up at Sookie and dimpled. *We kissed.*

Okay, now Sookie did squeal, and actually bounced over to the other side of the booth to give Karla an excited hug. << You did? Oh, I'm so happy for y'all! Did he initiate it, or did you? Was it a good kiss? How did you leave things between the two of you? >>

Nosy.

*We did,* Karla said. The great thing about psychic threads? You could squeal a lot and still carry on a conversation. *We both did, but he's the one who actually kissed me first. It was ummm, hot. Very, very hot. I mean...really hot.*

And up went the eyebrow. << Oh really, now? >> she asked, blushing a little bit. << So there'll be future kisses. >>

Karla was also blushing, but nodded vigorously. *I think we agreed there would be. Even after we stopped kissing, we just sat and cuddled for a bit. We're silly a lot of the time we're together. It's fun.*

And Sookie's smile softened from an ecstatic grin into something warmer. << That's the best, >> she offered. << I don't think it can be any fun to be with someone unless you're able to laugh at least a third or so of the time. >>

Coming from Bobby Drake's girlfriend, this was hardly a shocking opinion.

*I don't feel like I have to worry that I'm doing something wrong,* Karla admitted. *That's he's waiting for me to misstep or something.*

Karla had never been sure just how much of his class prejudice George had been able to let go of, when they were together.

Sookie tilted her head in concern. << I didn't know that was ever an issue, >> she admitted. << Isn't that the point of being with someone? That you can relax and not worry about screwing up? >>

*It wasn't really?* Karla sent, trying to think of a way to explain. *It was more a background concern, not something I was really aware of, I think. Even now, I mostly only realized it in contrast with how relaxed I am with Warren.* She sighed. *I'm not doing a good job of explaining. I'm sure part of it was just nervousness of having my first boyfriend?*

<< But it's sweet that you feel more relaxed with Warren, >> Sookie decided, smiling softly. << And since he's not your first, you've got those jitters out of the way! >> This could not be said for Sookie and Bobby, unfortunately, since they both were given to being rather spazzy dorks around one another still. << I'm happy for you, sweetie. >>

*I don't know if I'd say boyfriend yet,* Karla cautioned. *We've only had one date and one, ummm, instance of kissing.* Considering it had been several kisses all rolled up into one. *I don't want to be pushy or anything and I don't know how he feels about the whole thing. I don't suppose Bobby's back on the island yet, is he?* she asked, remembering their conversation from Friday.

Sookie shook her head, frowning. << No, and he was only supposed to be gone long enough to go to a wedding. I'm sort of worried, >> she admitted. << But you want me to have him ask, once he's back? I mean, no, let's not jump the gun and call Warren your boyfriend, but I'd say signs point to yes on him liking you! >>

*Does Bobby ever not get into trouble when he's home?* Karla asked. And then realized that probably wouldn't help Sookie much. *Though he always gets back out of it and comes home safe and sound,* she added quickly.

One of these days, Karla was going to learn to think before she...thought.

*I think you're right about him liking me,* she continued, *but I think Project Spycicle might still be useful if you don't think Bobby will object.*

<< Please. Bobby'd do it even if I didn't plan to bribe him, >> Sookie said with a wink. << Project Spycicle is a go. And I'm sure he's fine. I'll just be happy when he's back. >>

*Bribe him with wha~at?* Karla teased.

<< ...cake? >> Sookie replied, raising her brows innocently.

And blushing. So probably not cake.

She didn't think Sookie meant cake.

<< We'll see if he's receptive to cake, >> Sookie added, blushing darker. << I might have to attempt other methods. But I'll come through and we'll get your intel, no matter what kinds of bribes I have to come up with! >>

Like kisses or something. Poor, put-upon Sookie.

*Oh, you're such a good friend!* Karla said, pretending to swoon a bit. *You'd be willing to accept such a hardship? Just for me?*
