Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

Karla had been well and truly drunk last night. And while she hadn't thrown up--take that, Drake!--she had spent a goodly portion of the night (okay, morning), with her hand on the floor, trying to keep the room from spinning.

Still, her first hangover was going very well. Her head was only mildly throbbing, she'd stopped being dizzy after her very long shower, and she was even starting to get a little hungry. Right now, she wasn't sure which she was more fond of--her metabolism, or the hangover remedy she was drinking by the gallon.

It was possible she'd even share, if someone similarly afflicted popped by to visit.

[OCD up.]

"You look like--" Crap. "--someone who drank a little too much", observed Cloud as he entered the store; if he looked surprised it was because he expected -hoped- to find 'Dite in there, and not Karla; he should start memorizing when was whose turn on the store. Or something.

The fact she was taking it so well...reminded him that Karla was, after all, a young girl. A young girl with seriously awesome magic, but a young girl none the less. "I was trying to be optimistic about it", added as he wondered just how much she had drunk, and what could have happened in a crazy Sunday.

"Special occasion?" The smugness he could deal with.

"..." Cloud blinked once, twice, unable to understand Karla's words. Or rather, to cope with the meaning of said words. He had missed the radio broadcast. So he just smiled and tried to wash the confusion away. "Sounds like a good wake. A shame I missed it."

Cloud kept on smiling, but it was as if some spark in his particularly weird eyes had died. "Yeah", said at first...focusing to remember they were talking about Drake, and not...someone else.

"Neither do I. Now I really wish I could have had a word with him yesterday." Getting it together, Cloud looked up at Karla again. "Without the smugness, you certainly look worse." Cloud assumed that if he at least tried to make Karla pissed with him she would forget the wake business for a while.

Suffice to say, he wasn't good at raising people's spirits.

And that made Cloud laugh. Not a lot, but it was him, laughing; he was sure he remembered his own laugh that well. "Should I be trying to win yours, perhaps?" It was asking that or just whose affections she was trying to win; that one could wait.

"We can always compete to see who gets tipsy first." His mood had certainly improved a little. "When you feel like drinking again, that is."

Cloud knew better than to poke on the blush that might or might not have appeared on Karla's face. "Well, I didn't expect it otherwise", answered, and for a moment he allowed himself a grin; it wasn't half bad to be the one conducting the conversation for a little while. What would he do with the affections of a little blonde, that was beyond him.

"And that is good to know, as I happen to have my own in-built advantage." Being genetically enhanced gave him a better chance to drink all the contents of Caritas and survive to be sick the next day, and week probably, but he was sure it didn't give him immunity to alcohol.

"Karla!" 'Dite's voice was friendly and happy and more than slightly loud. "Ready for a great night? First I'll zap us all to the top of a mountain where the air currents make the trees sway toooo and froooo," 'Dite moved with a side to side motion, much like a boat on the ocean, "and then we'll have a big greasy dinner, and maybe something to drink after that! Sound good?"

Someone had heard of the drinking contest, oh yes.

"Aw, shucks." Leaning on the counter with her elbow, 'Dite winked, her voice lowering to normal. "Your hangover's already mostly gone, huh?" She chuckled. "Actually, I was thinking Italian for dinner, not grease." Her grin widened. "But air-boarding first, as soon as Dinah gets here."

"Absolutely had to honor it." 'Dite nodded. "And yeah, I think Dinah will enjoy herself." Her expression turned dreamy. "There's really nothing like it. Only you, and a board, and the currents of air. Gotta watch the corners, though. Get a bad gust, and you can do a serious wipe out."

"Hey!" 'Dite swiped at the hand in front of her. "Oh, man, how can you not like it? I mean, you're twenty-thousand feet in the air -- the birds don't even go that high -- and there you are, just sailin' along."

She sighed. "There was this one time I was racing Apollo, and I was leading, I was, would have had him, but he took this dangerous slide down for speed, and cut me right at a corner, and I couldn't control it. Tumbled like a -- tumbling thing."

'Dite looked surprised by the question. "Huh. Never thought of that. Guess we'll find out, huh?"

"Oh, would you relax?" She chuckled. "It's just the teensiest bit higher than Everest, and people can breathe up there." 'Dite paused. "Not well, but they can breathe."
