The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [9/18]

Since Mary had a lot of work to get done today, she dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt. All of the boards covering the windows were coming down, and apparently she was doing that on her own since Gunther was hiding in the kitchen. But it was nice to realize halfway through the process that he'd set up the buffet table with an assortment of pastries and sandwiches. It gave her all the more reason to finish so she could eat.

She wouldn't mind an extra set of hands to help her out.

"What happened here?" GOB asked, walking into the lobby, carrying his suitcase.

Mary raised an eyebrow. "Would you believe me if I told you that the last magician I hired had a little mishap?" she asked.

"Of course I would. Magicians are idiots. You should have hired an illusionist," GOB said, raising a hand and watching as a bunch of pennies showered down from ~~a launcher in his sleeve~~ Heaven. "...That was supposed to be a fireball. I better check that out before tonight."

"Actually, I think it works rather well. Most women would prefer money to fire. I know I would," suggested Mary.

She glanced at his suitcase. "Didn't bring your yacht this time? How long are you staying?"

"It takes too long to sail around the world to get here," GOB said. He hadn't sailed around the world. He had sailed through the Panama Canal to get from one side of North America to the other, but that was it. "And I'm only here until tomorrow morning. I'm hosting Three Minute Dates again."

Yes, he expected Mary to be impressed by that.

"Sounds like fun," said Mary. "But if you're only staying one night and you promise not to burn anything, I can give you any hotel room you'd like. I'm sure some of the suites might be a little roomier than your yacht."

"Any room?" GOB asked. "Well, how about I stay in your room, for old times' sake?"

He laughed to suggest it was a joke. Then he winked to suggest that the offer stood if she wanted a piece of him again.

Mary laughed as well, since she was about 2/3 sure that it was probably a joke. "Wouldn't that make it rather difficult in case you meet someone tonight?" she asked.

"I think we could find some way to deal with that kind of problem," GOB said. He forgot to laugh this time, but he still winked.

"I think I have a solution. How about I give you a nice room on the seventh floor? Then if you find yourself all alone tonight, my room is all the way at the end of the floor and you can stop by to see if I'm alone," said Mary.

After all, she was fairly sure that she would say no at the moment but would change her mind later on.

"I'll take you up on that offer," GOB said. "I'll bring some wine from the bar."

He wasn't going to pay for it, either. He believed that as a former owner of Caritas, he still got whatever he wanted for free. Tino would have reminded him that it wasn't technically free back when he actually could steal from the stock without anyone complaining, but he wasn't here now, was he?

"I'll make sure to have some glasses ready," said Mary. Not that she would be drinking any wine, but she would be double-checking the inventory in the mini bar.

"I'll see you then," GOB said. And maybe she would be more open to a third person if he managed to bring one back. He figured it couldn't hurt to try. He was wrong, of course, but he didn't know that. "And maybe on my way back out to the bar. So I'll see you twice."

Because there are all sorts of yummy goodies to eat!
