The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [9/25]

The onions had been following Mary all day, and she was quickly getting fed up with them and their commentary on her life.

"Do you know how pathetic it is that you've been engaged twice and still haven't gotten married?" asked one onion.

"Shut up," responded Mary.

"You know, you should really eat a sandwich," added a second onion.

"Will you give it a rest already?" yelled Mary.

"No wonder Danny ended up with Delinda instead of you. She's all perfect and you..." a third onion started to say, but this time, Mary didn't give it a chance to finish. She gathered up the onions and headed to the kitchen to introduce them to Gunther's knives.

Who is wiping away onion-inspired tears.

It probably didn't help that Sherlock appeared with yet another one of those onions.

"You're a freak, just like everyone says!" it shouted in that shrill little voice.

Really, they picked the wrong person to try this on. "I found this in my room," Sherlock informed her dryly.

"I'm sorry about that. They seem to be getting around today," said Mary. "Just leave it here. Gunther and I have a lot more onion recipes that we wanted to try out."

"...you're cooking them? Interesting."

Suddenly the little onion looked a bit nervous.

"John is going to move out and leeeeaaaave yoooooou!" it tried again, trying to edge away from them both.

"I found that chopping them up with a really sharp knife really manages to shut them up," said Mary. "And if that still doesn't work, tossing them in a hot pan with some oil does the trick."

It was also especially satisfying for the one who kept comparing Mary to Delinda.

Sherlock was giving that poor little onion a speculative look. "I suppose a dissection couldn't hurt."

"Mummylikesyourbrotherbeeeeest!"

Yes, fear him, onion. Fear him.

"Unfortunately, cutting them up makes you cry a bit, but at least they shut up by that point," said Mary. "The tears are worth it for the peace and quiet once they're gone."

"I'll wear goggles," Sherlock replied with a grin John insisted was 'creepy'.

"Ooh, that's a great idea!" said Mary, grinning. "Which I had thought of that sooner before I tackled the last batch of onions."

"And bring anymore you find to my rooms," Sherlock replied. "I need to run a few tests."

Now that he knew they were everywhere.

"I'll be sure to do that," said Mary. She might even send Gunther through the hotel on an onion hunt before any other guests complained. He could always use something to keep him busy.

Poor, poor Gunther.

"You're the hotel owner then." He gave her a once over. "Sherlock Holmes."

"Mary Connell. It's nice to finally meet you, Mr. Holmes," said Mary, extending her hand. "I hope you and your, uh, companion are finding your rooms comfortable."

She wasn't going to ask for any details, but she couldn't help being curious.

"I'm sure John will discuss the domestic needs with you another time. For now, I wanted to know about utilizing more refrigerated space in your kitchens. I have a few experiments that need space."

Like body parts.

...those poor maids.

Honestly, Mary didn't feel sorry for the maids. She'd seen much worse in Las Vegas.

"That shouldn't be a problem. Gunther talked me into putting in large walk-in coolers for when we have events, but right now they're just sitting empty," said Mary.

Sherlock's eyes lit up. "That would work perfectly."

"I'll let Gunther know that you'll be using some of the space, and he can show it to you," said Mary.

"Perfect." Sherlock nodded again before... walking away. He was so polite like that.

Somewhere, John was facepalming and not knowing why.

Just don't ask why Gunther is crying.

Oddly enough, I think Mary looks prettiest in all the sad icons.
