Taste of Thai, Saturday Afternoon

Hinata was… Hinata was fairly certain that her brief respite yesterday—in that her father had merely requested that she lead them to their room and then left her to her own devices—was going to come to a halt.

Right about… now.

With lunch, apparently, as she studied the menu and hoped that this wouldn't be a disaster.

Hinata was eternally optimistic.

[Mainly for the family, but open if you wish!]

Hanabi fidgeted in her seat, not willing to admit that she found reading the menu—which was entirely in English a bit hard to read—and struggled to puzzle out something that sounded simple enough that she could act like she'd really wanted to order it.

Part of her attention, it had to be admitted, was focused on their father. What was he going to say?

As if heedless of his daughters preoccupation with him, Hiashi glanced over the menu, making up his mind in an instant, and took a long moment to simply gaze over the restaurant.

Patience was something of an art, when dealing with Hiashi.

Oh no. This was going to be one of the times she utterly loathed, wasn't it?

Patience, at eleven, was not Hanabi's strongest suit. All the lectures about being like a stone meant little to the fact that she wasn't stone and thus couldn't behave like one. At all.

Hanabi bit her lip. Hinata had put down her menu, which meant that she'd better hurry it up before their father was disappointed in her, and that meant… that.

That thing, sure. It had chicken in it.

She closed her menu, hoping vaguely that she wouldn't hate what she'd picked out to order, and tried not to fidget.

Mostly.

Hanabi was ever so grateful by the time the server came around and took their orders. At least it was something to do.

Hinata's calm patience and Hanabi's frustrated mimicry of it both were noted and logged.

In this one thing, his elder daughter had always been the better.

"Hinata," he began, his voice chill and implacable.
