After handwavily spending yesterday with Commander Walsh, Goose managed to make arrangements to meet with Darkstar while he had the chance.

As he waited he silently went over how to prepare himself for the conversation that would follow. Darkstar was the only Supertrooper who hadn't jumped to the conclusion that he was responsible for Wolf Den and even though he knew she was more swayed to Stingray's strain of thought, he didn't want to give up on the chance that he had to try and persuade Darkstar that it didn't have to be the way it was, that he could make it right.

He took a deep breath, trying to settle the uneasiness that he felt.

Darkstar made it to the spot where Goose had said to meet, she watched him from a distance for several seconds - debating whether or not she should go through with it, she finally approached him.

"Goose," she said softly.

He turned slightly to face her, "Darkstar," he acknowledged and then paused, unsure of what to say next.

"Is Commander Walsh still here?" it hadn't taken her long to figure that the former Commanding officer of Wolf Den, was responsible for looking after Goose.

She didn't like to think what would happen if she and Walsh crossed paths, seeing only a glimpse of him at the gathering the other day had been hard enough.

Goose nodded, "yes," he said, "back at the hotel, he'll be leaving later," he paused, "he doesn't know that your here,"

As far as he knew but he wasn't going to say that.

"Good," was all she said in response to that, "I shouldn't be here, you know,"

"I know," he said softly, he paused, "what made you come?"

"I don't know," she hesitated, "after ...after Wolf Den, Ray kept going on about you, how you betrayed us ...how, I ..."

She was silent for several seconds, "what happened that night Goose, what changed?"

"It was by chance that I wasn't in the barracks with you," Goose said quietly, "I was in the Firing Range, I had nothing to do with what happened,"

"Then why don't you come back with me," Darkstar urged, "I can convince Ray, we can be together again, it doesn't have to be like this Goose,"

He was tempted to take her up on that offer, he wanted to, "it's not that simple Darkstar," was what he ended up saying.

"Why not?" Darkstar demanded and then a thought occurred to her, "it's to do with Walsh, doesn't it?"

Goose merely nodded, "I'm sorry Darkstar," he avoided her gaze, "I don't have a choice,"

She couldn't believe it, "how...they've got something over you," she slowly realized, "you have turned against us, Ray was right,"

"No," he protested, "I..." he glanced back up at her, he knew where this was heading.

"I didn't want to believe them," Darkstar said, shaking her head and started to turn away, "I know Ray was always jealous of you, being Walsh's favourite ... it was the one thing he agreed with Killbane on, I didn't think he'd be right about this,"

"Darkstar..." Goose said, half pleading, "please...don't end it like this, we can fix it,"

"No," she shook her head, moving further away, "I shouldn't have come," she took one last glance at Goose, "don't follow me, it'll be different next time we meet," was all she said and then she was gone.

Goose just stared after her, he knew the conversation wasn't going to go well but he thought he'd have a chance to convince Darkstar that he wasn't like she believed him to be.

He really was on his own now.
