Fixer-Uppers, Tuesday

Spock hoped he was not going into Pon Farr did not want to talk about it. He just wanted to sit here and mess around with electronics, thank you very much. And that was exactly what he could be found doing.

Fixer-Uppers is open. And has a hideous sign.

Class had been interesting, but Scully was too restless to just hang out in her room before military reserves. And she hadn't seen Spock in a while. So, it seemed like a good idea to visit him today.

"Hey." She waved as she entered the shop. "Any new break-throughs in science?"

"Anything you could reasonably patent under an assumed name in 2010?" Scully offered, then with more interest, "Anything you could patent in the future? I'm feeling the need to be distracted."

"Who is the new owner?" Scully was wandering, unable to keep still, but not touching anything for fear of either breaking it further or putting Spock on edge. He wasn't an easy person to predict that way.

And now she had to go out and check on the sign. Distraction was inevitable, the way she felt today.

Scully had come back in blinking at the shiny brightness of the sign, and said cautiously, "Is some of that alien script? It looks more deliberate than just decoration." She tilted her head and added, "Is she a good boss otherwise?"

Because no, Happy Bosses were never a good thing for employees.

"That's good." Scully sighed, restless again, then asked, "What are you working on now? And do you know anything about Special Collections, in the Library?"

She frowned, putting her chin down on her arms, watching his hands-- nice hands, she realized absently, but the thought didn't really connect with anything else in her distracted state-- and said, "I want to research something in there. Do you know, does the Librarian need a full explanation of why? Or does it *have* to be for school?"

She'd make up a project if needed, or be honest if totally required.

Scully considered making something up, but really, she didn't have to be specific. "Curse-breaking. Apparently." She wrinkled her nose. "Months of being around magic means I'm forced to admit it exists. But I don't know how it works, exactly. And the texts in the unrestricted portions of the library are too vague."

"How do you deal with all this?" Scully asked, curious. "Singing flowers. Singing people." She stopped, momentarily worried she was about to break into song.

...nope. Thank God. "If I go into the Restricted Sections, though, and find out what's in there, I'll let you know."

Scully was pretty far down that road. Headed for Nervous Breakdown-ville.

"Somehow, some way... I want to make sense out of all of this. No matter how long it takes me."

...well, no. She'd rather be an adult. But it was something to keep her mind off that.
