The Boards, Monday
It was time for him to start seriously considering when the play was to—go live. Only, there were a million other details to see to before he could say for sure either way. Sophie was handling a great deal of it, which was something he was thankful, in his own way, for but that left him with quite enough work to do.
Which happened to be why he was in the theatre today, reviewing the sets and what was still needed to be done. Make up was well under control, he thought. Costumes, though... and he’d have to...
What to do, what to do... He bent his head over his paperwork, deep in thought.
[Open, of course, for anyone who wants to bother him/put in extra rehearsing time/what-have-you. Standard ‘around but slowish’ disclaimer applies since I’m at work currently!]

Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
So here she was, script in hand (and promising herself she'd have her lines memorized by this upcoming rehearsal that she WAS NOT FOR ANY REASON GOING TO MISS), ready to rehearse. Even if she had to say her lines with a handpuppet, she was going to get through her scenes.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"Karla," he said, pen twirling absently in one hand. "Good day."
The 'what are you doing here' was unspoken but present.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
It took a lot of effort to keep from implying 'duh' after that, but Karla knew she was already on thin ice. "I missed two rehearsals. I have to make them up, and I thought it would be best to do that here, where I won't get distracted."
She couldn't help but add a faltering, "If that's okay?"
Dammit, Genesis. Stop being so intimidating.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
For shame, Genesis.
As it was, his lips quirked, just slightly. “What purpose would the theatre serve if it were not open for rehearsal?”
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
maturelywell to intimidation....Not that she was anywhere near ready to start toe-stomping yet. Oh noooo.
"There might be something else going on," she said, a trifle defensively. "Perhaps today, the crew was going to get together and make sure the stage and backdrops were ready."
It didn't look like any such thing was happening, but it could!
"But if that's not the case, then I'll be happy to use the time to rehearse instead."
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
This girl did amuse him, it was true. "As you see," he said, a trifle dryly. "The stage is empty. Up with you now."
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"Warren and I worked on blocking for Scene Five," she said, not pointing out that was about all they'd been able to accomplish on Wednesday. "I think I'll work on Scene Nine for now."
She paused for a moment, then entered stage right, playing up smug satisfaction without saying a word. She crossed the stage slowly, until she got to approximately where Elphaba would be standing. "Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who's the fairest of them all." Her posture made it quite clear there was only one possible choice: her.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
His Mirror was quite different from Elphaba's--wearier, dryer, but something to work off of.
"Oh no," he said, lifting his voice while letting a sigh fill the theatre. "It's you again."
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
But not so aback she was going to miss her cue, oh no. Her expression was still surprised when she turned to face him, but her voice was all complacent amusement as she said, "Of course it's me. Who were you expecting? The late Snow White?" She laughed. "So who IS the fairest one of all?"
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
As it was, there was a distinct flavour of amusement tempering exasperation this time around: "Why do you keep asking me the same question all the time?" A droop of his eyelids, being insolent and just this side of truly insulting. "Can't you think of anything else to ask me?"
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Honestly. Why was good help so hard to find these days. Get to it mirror. Chop chop.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
There was something freeing in openly mocking the person you served.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Pssht. Something more important than looks indeed. Like world history was going to help her be a Queen. Stupid mirror.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"What you need," he mused, "is a hobby."
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Do you really want me to? You know I will.
Then she crossed back and waited. Expectantly.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Not when he was the only one that could truthfully and entirely answer her most important question.
"I hear stamp collecting is nice," he continued blithely, as if unaware of the danger. "How about—"
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"It's not what is on the outside that matters—it's what's on the inside that really counts." The mirror was a fool, yes, but it was the combination of reckless and earnest that made the mirror so very incredibly foolhardy. "A truly beautiful woman is a woman who has some substance!"
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
She hefted the vase and took aim, smiling all the while.
The mirror had brought this upon itself, after all.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
But, oh! He sounded reluctant about it.
"Some nights are dark but daytime is light. The fairest young lady—"
Did he really have to finish?
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"Yeeeeeeeees?" Karla drawled. Already preening.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"The fairest young lady STILL is Snow White," he recited dully.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"Oh, thank you," she said as she got to center stage, laughing soundlessly for a moment. "I really have been taking better care of myself lately. I've been getting a good night's sleep, eating lots of fruit and vegetables and I put little cucumber slices on my eyes to--SNOW WHITE!" Realization dawned and she whirled back to face Genesis, fists clenched. "DID YOU SAY 'SNOW WHITE'?"
She marched back over, looking like she was ready to grab him by the collar and shake information out of him.
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
If he'd had a hat, he'd have been clutching it to his chest.
"Y-Yea."
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
All step-motherly concern here!
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
"Yea?" Genesis' eyes narrowed. "What kind of accident?"
Re: Rehearse With/Talk To Genesis
Mod Your Stage
OOC
Like it says on the tin, no one is obliged to be here, come if you want, stuff like that. Whee.
