Work. George was here. That was all the effort she had intended to putting in to it, today. Except there were all these boxes here and displays that were supposed to be set up. More Christmas stuff? Seriously?

She dug out the box cutters -- she was here, she might as well -- and cracked open the boxes to discover lots of blue, instead of the predicted red and green. A little investigating revealed she had the wrong holiday entirely; most of the stuff inside was for Hanukkah, although the contents of the box couldn't decide if it was spelled with a C in front or not. Really, George would have thought spelling the holiday's name right was something companies might want to get down.

The chocolate coins, she had to admit, were pretty good. She had no idea where to stick the candelabras, though.

Turtle and Canary's was open, and celebrating (C)Hanuk(k)a(h) today. Just don't ask George to pronounce any of this shit.

Someone needs to explain Romanization to George.

"Do you have it?" Ariel bounced into the shop, eager and determined, hopping over to the counter. "Do you have Giga pudding?"

Oh, great. Someone was bouncing at her. And possibly someone entirely unhinged, from the looks of it. Just what she wanted today.

She stared back for a few seconds, not even sure what the hell was going on.

"... No?" George hazarded. "I dunno. Maybe?"

George was never going to be Employee of the Month.

"... Is that a Chanukah thing?"

Because they had some Chanukah things. With or without the C.

"I...don't know?" Ariel admitted, looking doubtful and confused for a moment. "Is Chanukah a pudding? Giga pudding is a pudding. It's yellow, and wiggly, and has something like chocolate on it, I think. I could sing the song for you, if that helps!"

"No, that's okay," George said very, very quickly. "I don't need to hear the song. Really."

Really. She really, really didn't.

"Chanukah is ... a holiday?" she said, wondering where Ariel grew up to not hear about this. Must not have been very multicultural. Maybe a small town in the Midwest or something. "It's like Christmas but there are eight days and you ... I don't even know the rest. Just that we have stuff for it."

She gestured vaguely around the store.

And Ariel followed that vague gesture with a vague glance, once that instantly became intrigued, her eyes lighting up like it had, ironically, become Christmas.

"That is biggest zoominfluver I've ever seen! Is that eight little spots on in?"

"I don't ... think that's a zoominflipper?" George said, wondering if maybe Ariel was ... special. "I ... they have the ... something about lights? For Chanukah."

Which she kept pronouncing with a ch, no less.

"No, I'm pretty sure that's a zoominflover, though it's probably called something else here," Ariel said, after a moment to consider one, picking one up and looking it over. Eight holders. She couldn't get over that. It was fantastic. Do you know how many dinglehoppers that could hold? EIGHT. And she had a lot of dinglehoppers.

"I'll take eight of them," she decided. "And some Giga pudding, if you have it, please. Maybe the panda will know?"

"O...kay," George said, deciding not to argue about the ... zoomin ... whateverthefuckers. "Do you mean Apu? He's not a ... panda."

Ariel was probably out of her gourd. She couldn't be sure Ariel didn't think she was a panda.

"No, no," Ariel shook her head. "Not Apu, the panda in the cheese aisle. He..." But she frowned slightly. "Maybe he has the day off."
