MONDAY Evening, Across Fandom-Town

As people fell asleep randomly and others huddled together for safety, something new appeared in the streets of Fandom. Tiny, floating crystal spheres bobbed along in the night, following the air currents and the will of he who made them. At a casual glance, they looked almost like soap bubbles, easily capable of fitting in the palm of the hand. But for their small size, they held an enormous amount of magic. They were the supports and buttresses for the illusion that now held the dreamers deep in sleep. For all that the spheres were beautiful, showing ever-moving images of masked dancers, delicious foods, and the familiar faces of the students and townsfolk of Fandom, anyone who drew near enough to see those images would be assaulted by the odor of rotten peaches and a feeling of cold malevolence. Lovely things, but dangerous. As long as they still floated, whole and unbroken, through the night air, the dreamers would remain forever trapped.

The crystals weren't the only things out in the night. Throughout the day, the buildings on the island had been twisting and turning, transformed by his will. Random walls sprang up and landmarks shifted, being absorbed into the Labyrinth itself. With the expansion of the Labyrinth, goblins of all stripes prowled the streets. There was no one else to be snatched away, but that didn't mean they couldn't have fun with the folks that were left!

[Open for anyone who did not eat the peaches! Feel free to mod your own goblins or ask for an NPC, though please remember as per this post, Ludo and Sir Didymus are non-moddable. OCD UP!]

Across Fandom comes the noise of a great booming grandfather clock, striking thirteen times. The goblins all scatter, not wanting to be caught outside when their master's anger is unleashed. In dorms, common rooms, and various other places about the island, the sleepers awake, confused and disoriented about what just occurred.

Ping here either for a helpful goblin (one that can give you a hint about what to do) or a hostile one (for fighting!)

There's no set number, so feel free to attack and shatter as many or as few as you wish

So the little guys who had come into the shop had behaved once Maki had bribed them, but something had been giggling and following her all the way home, until some blasted fairies bit her.

The moment the sun went down, Makita, her hammer, and her sickle were out stalking the wilds of the Park. Some sparkly-fairies were going down.

Leia had gotten her blaster out of the weapons locker when she'd heard about the kidnappings. She hated being cooped up and just waiting, so she was taking a look around town for herself.

She fully expected a lecture from her father later.

That might be true, but her father wasn't around now, was he? Nope, he was off ~~probably blowing up planets or something~~ and it was just Leia and the darkness and surely no one else!

Really. No one out here but us chickens!

...Ignore that stealthy sound off to your left, Leia. It's just more...chickens. Yes. Doing innocent and chickeny...things.

Leia aimed her blaster into the darkness. "Show yourself," she demanded. "I want to talk to someone about the people missing from Fandom."

Diplomacy first, then shooting.

"Do you know anyone who is missing?" one shadow asked another.

"Nope, everyone I know is exactly where they're supposed to be," giggled another.

There was the sound of padding footsteps and rustling leaves as a few more shadows darted behind and around Leia, hiding just out of sight.

"Maybe we should go out!" the first voice said from an entirely different location.

"Or maybe she should come in," chimed a third voice.

"Come in where?" Leia said warily, moving her aim from voice to voice and trying to keep at least one direction clear for escape if needed. "You're not going to find it as easy to drag me off as you did the others."

"Maybe, but we don't want you," cam the first voice again.

That's right, Leia. You've been rejected by a goblin. Err, chicken. Whatever. Either way---harsh.

"We have the ones we want."

"What's so special about them?" Leia asked carefully, managing to get over that sting of rejection. How could someone not want her? She was a princess and looked fabulous in a golden bikini!

"They're--"

"Shhh!" There was a scuffle and a scramble as a bunch of goblins...chickens...goblin-chickens rushed to tackle the idiot about to answer Leia's questions.

"They're better!" Another yelled frantically. "Just better!"

"But they're--"

"Shhhh!"

"But no one's better than me," Leia said, trying to pull out some more information. "I'm a princess. What's more special than that?"

Belatedly she realized if she talked them into kidnapping her, she'd never hear the end of it from Anakin.

"They're also princesses! And princes! Once J--OW!" The scuffling in the shadows had erupted into an all out fight now. There were some things you just didn't say. Honestly, now.

Of course, if Leia's attention was on the noises of a fistfight erupting from one set of shadows, it probably wasn't on the shadows behind her.

Sneak sneak sneak...

Leia knew Karla was a queen in her world, but she wasn't aware of the others being any sort of royalty. "Once who...?" she started to say, but then she had the feeling someone was moving behind her and spun around, firing.

Upon being spotted, the goblin in question went stock still, as if hoping Leia would just assume it was a rock or a bush or something.

Then, one blaster bolt later, and there was a pile of ash that held the goblin's shape for a moment before blowing away in the winter night air.

The scuffling in the shadows stopped, as the other goblins stared at the space where their compatriot had been. One goblin idly punched the other, still staring.

Then, "Get her!"

"Back off!" Leia ordered, turning back around and trying to keep an eye on all the shadows while taking a few steps back. "Unless you want to end up like your friend there."

Ooooh. That did halt them for a moment, many in literal mid-step until gravity brought them crashing to the ground. Nobody wanted to end up as ashes.

Then, inevitably, someone remembered the point of distance weapons. And that was when a hail of rocks came flying at Leia from different directions.

"Ow!" Stupid goblins. Why couldn't they be nice to her like Ewoks would be?

Leia held up one hand to protect her head, firing the blaster at the goblins with the others. She took several stumbling steps backward, trying to put some distance between herself and the goblin horde.

Several of the blaster bolts hit other goblins, it was true. But what brought the battle to a screeching halt again was not the loss of a few of the horde, or even when a bolt hit the metal of one of the goblin's helmets, thus careening of to slam into another. No, what stopped the hail of rocks was when Leia's last bolt slammed into one of the shimmering crystal spheres that had been serenely floating above the battle.

It shattered into powder and the scent of rotten peaches grew almost overwhelming for a moment.

"Uh-oh," one of the shadows muttered. "That's not very good."

Leia had seen the crystal spheres, but she'd been too busy dealing with the goblins to risk taking a closer look. "Oh, you didn't like that, did you?" she said, peering at the nearest crystal. Wait, wasn't that Puck? And Ben's friend Ender? It was hard to tell since the figures inside were masked, but she had a really bad feeling about this.

"I guess you wouldn't want me to accidentally do that to another one," Leia said, squeezing off another shot at the orb to make it explode as well. She wrinkled her nose at the smell.

"Ooooh, no, you shouldn't do that!" A few of the goblins came out of hiding to try to stand between Leia and the crystal, which made no sense with Leia being much much taller than any of them. "Stop that! That's vandalizing!"

Omg, you don't want to break the law, do you, Leia?

"So you can negotiate," Leia said, aiming another shot at an orb, but deliberately missing. "Tell me where you've taken the students or I'll shoot all of them down."

"The way forward," a creaky old voice said behind her, "Is sometimes the way back."
