Town Hall, Tuesday Daytime

"I think you all know why I've called you here today."

Cable stood at the front of the large room, on a platform that made him look even bigger than he already was. Wearing a dark blue spandex suit and the mother of all huge-ass guns on his back, he made for quite a figure.

"Our citizens have been attacked, or even kidnapped. Communications have been cut off. Most of the island is now covered in a labyrinth. I caution you all not to enter it. Likewise for the bog that seems to be surrounding the school at the present time. We are now all operating under a state of emergency; anyone who isn't armed should feel free to take arms from Wellspring, or from my private reserve here."

Yes, he kept guns in the Mayor's office. Was anyone really surprised?

"But rest assured that this emergency will not go on forever. I am already putting security precautions in place, but to do this effectively, I need your help." He glanced around the room. "These goblins are kidnapping lone stragglers out on the town. Do not go outside without an escort. Preferably several. And I would like anyone who wants to lend a hand to let us know now, or at least form a team to patrol the area on their own. No one benefits from lone rangers." Well, unless they were him. But anyway... "I'd especially like to ask you all to be vigilant around the dorms. So far, the invaders have only taken students, and I think we can all agree that their safety is a top priority. A team will need to set up a defense perimeter there."

He gave the gathered one last group. "And if anyone has any recon whatsoever on what these things are and how we can stop them, I suggest you make sure we all know about it," he said. "I know many of you will be hitting the books soon. Keep us informed."

And now that that had sunk in... "Now, ladies and gentlemen, we have dealt with worse in the past. Plenty of invaders have tried. There isn't a trace of doubt in my mind that we can beat back this latest batch and still be back home safe in time for Christmas."

He nodded, and took a step back, making room for any of his colleagues to take the stand, if they wished.

Ghanima was not amused at this latest turn of events. For once she was very visibly wearing her crysknife, instead of concealing it beneath her robes, and the anger waiting beneath the surface of her placid demeanor did not bode well for any of goblin-kind.

Summer showed up, wanting to know more about what was going on. She didn't like what she'd heard on the radio the past couple of nights, which only furthered her desire to do something to help.

If she could, that is.

Fraser, of course, was there. He'd come straight from the school (after going over that rickety bridge again) and was now seated, waiting for the meeting to start.

Eying the giant gun strapped to the mayor's back and the wicked-looking knife being worn by Ghanima, Cindy was a little grumpy she'd gone to the trouble of hiding all of her personal weaponry. Sure, it was probably for the best that people didn't know all the weapons she was proficient with, but right now it was hard to think like an operative when her students were in danger.

Aphrodite showed up, dressed in black leather with pink fringes, her slingshot stuck into her back pocket.

She'd moved from ice balls to spiky balls. They were a little harder to shoot, but they stuck when hit, so it was cool.

She had a good glower on, with her arms folded. Hercules was in knapsack on her back. If the store disappeared before she got back, it wasn't taking the cat this time.

Sophie was there, looking for someone to report to; this was beyond her scope of planning, really. She really wished Nate were here.

Arya showed up, her sword and dagger strapped to her belt. Numerous buildings had disappeared -- including Coyote Medicine, not to mention a growing number of island residents, which made for an angry elven warrior.

Hey, taking orders. Reno could handle that jazz.

Once he was finished doing his rounds with one of the Rookies, he stopped in to see if anybody knew anything else about what the hell was going on.

A perimeter around the Dorms, huh? That sounded almost like Turks work, right there.

Dread and Puissant Champion of the Fae reporting for duty. He looked around to see who else was here. Lots of people he sort of knew.

Annja had very definitely shown up. Students were missing and that damn labyrinth thing had eaten her store.

She was also a little grumpy that she couldn't get in touch with anyone off the island.

Zoe had been to a lot of disgusting places in her life, but she couldn't remember the last time she'd smelled something as bad as what was around the school right now. "I agree that if we all work together, we can beat our new guests back, and more importantly, get our people back too." Seriously, she longed for the day when an invasion wouldn't put her students at risk. "I'd like to ask that everyone avoids going near the school unless there's an emergency - there's just no reason to put yourself at risk, and I don't want to have to send anyone to rescue you if you get stuck there. Stick to town, group up, and just try to stay safe."

And a partridge in a pear treeee! What? It had to be done. Tis the season and all that jazz.

Deadpool was there, holding the kid up on his hip so she could look around. Because this was a learning experience for her. A learning experience.

A sheriff who would very much like to get back to work rather than sit around, having a Klatchian social. So, as soon as the speech was finished, he was out the door to do just that.

Robin was, really, just counting down the minutes until she could get to the bar and start drinking heavily because of this.

And checking her phone periodically to see if there were updates from Benton or the dogs. Not that the dogs could text or anything. Shh.
