Center of Town | Friday | December 10

At long last, the Goblin King was going to address this town and it's ridiculous occupants. He'd been keeping an eye on things from his castle but now, with the time of action so close at hand, he couldn't stop himself from leaving the castle to address those that were working fruitlessly to get their friends back. Now, it was time to appear to them, let them see who was beating them so easily and let their emotions overwhelm and destroy them.

"Welcome!" Jareth boomed, letting his voice carry over the ins and outs of the island that were covered by his gorgeous labyrinth. He waited, let those assemble that might and let those hear that wouldn't.

"You might be wondering who I am," he said, twirling his pimp cane lazily while wearing his tightest pair of pants and frilliest frilly shirt. There was a vicious grin on his face. Something amusing to him but dangerous to those that might try and stop him. "I am...the Goblin King."

He waited for the recognition that he expected. The goblins inside the labyrinth cheered as they were wont to do for their leader.

"And this creation you've seen on your island is mine," he said happily. "For a week now, you've worked yourselves day and night to retrieve your captured friends and you've given me endless entertainment while doing so. Thank you for that. Your friends are...safe."

There might have been something off about how he said that. Maybe.

"And they will be coming with me," he said firmly, planting the cane in the ground and leaning on it. "However, since I am a generous man, I am here to offer you...a way. A way to get your friends back, that is. You have twenty four hours to solve my labyrinth. One day. If time runs out, your friends will become mine. Forever."

He grinned, letting the glee he felt in those words show on his face. A clock, suspended in midair over Jareth's shoulders, began ticking down. He didn't expect anyone to solve his creation. No one, no one, could best the Goblin King.

"Good luck."

Unfortunately, Jareth didn't mean that at all.

Of course he had gotten Ghanima's attention, the horrid creature had her students.

"We are quite aware of the alterations you've made," she said coolly. "However, you seem to be quite mistaken. We do not care who you are. We have never cared."

"We wish to know why you have taken the children under our care." It would possibly help in retrieving them, if they knew why he was intent on stealing them away, and Ghanima did enjoy having additional reasons to slip a knife into his ribs.

"We both know that is not the truth," Ghanima stated calmly, refusing to let him rile her. She was Bene Gesserit, and self-proclaimed kings meant nothing to the Holy Sister of the God Emperor. "Do you lie to yourself as easily as you lie to us?"

"Again, I ask; why did you take the children?"

"Why withhold answers if you're so sure you have nothing to lose?" Ghanima countered, just as smoothly.

So, now Cassidy had a face to go along with the person who had kidnapped their friends and fellow students. She a had a face that she could describe to Shira when they discussed who had dared to take a member of their Court.

She was highly unimpressed by him. She made sure that she took in every detail about him and --

Maybe some details were best left unrepeated if she wanted to be able to get through this thing without blushing the color of her hair.

Peter was out there more readily than he'd ever expected from himself.

"Okay, we are going in," Peter declared, to anyone that'd listen. "I may not be a hero, but I damn sure am not letting some guy with eighties-hair and a stuffed codpiece," yes, of course he'd looked, "take away good friends to be his playthings."

"Agreed, though I'm not keen on anyone being taken away, friend or--" Cally stopped, because she couldn't not ask. "Codpiece?"

...This wasn't good at all.

Dolf stared at the man, then the clock, then the man, and felt an old, familiar friend creep up; hopelessness. They'd barely even managed to get into the labyrinth before, and now they had to navigate it in a day?

He chewed on his lip, racking his brain for answers, but it felt like there weren't any. He wanted to shout after Jareth, ask him why, what was the point of this, but his feet felt a little frozen.

"He's completely mad," Cally announced, not because it wasn't obvious to anyone standing there, but because she needed some sort of lead-up to, "We've got to get them back."

Jaina had listened with folded arms, annoyed at the arrogance and at the same time glad that he was giving them a chance. There'd yet to be a time they hadn't ended up winning when they had that much.

This didn't mean she wasn't muttering, "I can't believe we have to take a guy who wears pants that tight seriously."

It was at least a good warning, because now Dolf got to startle on mad rather than on get them back, which might have given the wrong impression. Now, he had time to turn towards her and go, "We do," in a shakily determined voice. "We all have to go in the Labyrinth!"

Lad, you had the swordfighting skills of a tea spoon despite your best efforts. Think about that for a minute. Even if you were okay at pointy-sharp-end-in-screaming-things.

"Give them back," Rinoa said, "or I will rip every organ out of your body and set them on fire."

Her patience was nonexistent. She was very, very glad that Anakin had given her shields. Otherwise, she might already be attempting to turn his eyeballs inside-out.

"You're happier not knowing," Quinn said, from her place on the fringes of the group. "I think Peter's right. We should just cut the crap, go in there, and get everybody out."

Her attitude probably would have been very different if Puck hadn't been among those taken.

Who knew Cally's classes -- the tactics and revolution ones, at least -- would come in handy so soon. "Not all of us," she countered. "We'd just get in each others' way -- and if it's dangerous, those who can't fight would need protection we there isn't time to offer."

Rinoa nodded. "We can kill him after they're back," she said.

Okay, maybe she could try being less scary? They had Squall, and her powers were screwy, and she was low on sleep.

"Sorry." She shook her head. "I'm with Quinn," she said. "They're what matters. We go after them. What do we need?"

Good. Finally, she was thinking like a strategist again.

"No, not everyone," Dolf agreed, not quite catching on to the implication just yet. "But some of us, and not too few either. And to bring something to mark bits of Labyrinth with. I should get something..."

No, Dolf. Just no.

They didn't want to come back? One hand flew up to her rings.

"I don't believe you," she said. "If that were true, they'd be here, to tell us themselves."

She was going to pretend that his words didn't worry her.
