The Causeway, Sunday Morning

The portal from Faerie deposited Leda at the end of the causeway. She stood for a moment, just taking in the sight. She had wondered if she'd ever see it again. Then she inhaled deeply, not realizing how much she'd missed the smell of the bay.

Now if she could just find out how long she'd been away.

Momoko was walking around town, enjoying the lack of walls and the return of all the shops and houses when she saw Leda standing there. She looked a bit different.

"Leda! Hi!" Momoko skipped over to greet her friend. "Did you just come back from Baltimore? You totally got your hair done or something, right? You look awesome!"

Leda had indeed gotten her hair done. All artificial (and magical) coloring was gone, so it was it's natural silvery gold, and it lacked it's usual punkish cut.

"Momoko!" Leda gasped, overjoyed. Hopefully the girl didn't mind being glomped cause that was what Leda was going for.

This reaction might seem a bit out of proportion to the length of time it'd been since she'd last seen Leda.

Momoko never minded glomps! Unless you were muddy and she was in a totally awesome new dress. Or if you were on fire.

So, there was confused hugging, but hugging nonetheless. And laughing. "Leda! You're acting like you haven't seen me in ages! Ah! You weren't trapped in that maze were you? With the others?"

Radio hadn't said, but radio wasn't always too accurate.

"Maze? No I wasn't...is that what happened? I went to Faerie for a day and then I couldn't get back! Portalocity said all ways back here were cut off. What happened? How long have I been gone? I haven't seen you for two months." Then she stopped to breathe.

"Two months?!" Momoko kept her grin but blinked hard. "It has not been two months! If you missed the maze, then it's been a week, but totally not two months. We just talked the other day!"

Silly Leda, Momoko would have been worried sick if her friend had been missing that long.

"Only a week?" Leda had been prepared for some kind of time difference, but somehow that was larger a difference than she'd expected. "Time passes differently sometimes in Faery than in the World, but...I guess I forgot just how different." Hey another hug. "That'll be weird to get used to. But, what's this about a maze?"

Wait, important stuff first.

"You were really gone for months?! You totally should have called!"

Okay, NOW for the catch-up: "You totally missed another invasion. There was this guy calling himself a king and kidnapping people and then to keep us away he built this magic maze that kept growing and taking over the island." Stupid magic that she couldn't do anything about.

"I tried but I couldn't get through. It was like Fandom didn't exist anymore or something. Is everyone okay? I guess he went away right?"

"Oooooh! I couldn't get any messages out after a while, so maybe we were cut off or something!" Momoko totally needed to get hold of Dinah, then. Before she turned up on the doorstep. "And a team went in and took him out, yes. And rescued everyone. I'm not totally sure how, though. It's too bad you weren't here. I think there was magic involved."

"I totally could have helped." Leda nodded. "If there was a maze I guess solving it was part of it. You weren't one of the ones taken?"

Momoko shook her head. "No. I don't know why he took the people he did." She tapped her chin. "He made an announcement about how they didn't want to come back, though, which was totally not true since one of them was Karla and she totally would have said something first."

"Karla? Oh Gods is she okay?" Jeezus she makes a big speech to Karla about wanting to help her, and what happens? She isn't there the next time the girl needed help.

"Most of the rescued people came home and fell asleep, I think? I was trying to give her some time to recover before I talked to her about it."

"I...guess I should do that too. Plus, I have to see if I still remember where my room is. And make sure Skiblits hasn't disowned me." Actually there was a lot she needed to do. Go through her notes for class, contact Leander and let him know that yes, she would be staying for a while.

"Oh, and uh, I'm not princess Leda anymore." she said as a by the way. "While I was gone they went ahead and held the coronation."

"Ledaaaaa," Momoko rolled her eyes and patted her friend's shoulder. "He hasn't disowned you! Like I said, you haven't been gone from here for that long. Although your closet may be a mess; I'll totally help you with your laundry, if you need me to."

She raised an eyebrow as she began walking them back to the dorms. "Coronation? And you're not princess... Who did they make king that you're not a princess anymore? I didn't think they could do that."

Leda giggled. "I mean they coronated me. I'm not a princess anymore because they moved me up the ladder. And I'd love help with laundry, two months without a washing machine shouldn't have been long enough to forget how to use one, but you never know."

Also the palace staff handled that. She had yet to stop feeling guilty about that. Even though her maid had told her off for trying to do her own wash in the bath tub.

"Ah! Congratulations!" That totally deserved a bouncy hug, right? "I mean, I know you weren't too happy with the idea before, but it's still totally good news, right?"

If she insisted. Leda didn't get many hugs back in Faerie so she'd take any folks felt like giving her.

"It's not quite as bad as I thought it would be. They let me come back here after all. And I have to say, the responsibility isn't the worst thing ever either. I feel important, which isn't, as it happens, the same as feeling powerful."
