Dite's Decadent Delights

Karla hadn't want to come to work today--she had finals, she was pretty sure that this week was dress rehearsal, she just kind of wanted to hunker down in her room where it was safe--but she told herself sternly that such behavior was silly. The Labyrinth was gone, her Craft was working, and she really had no good reason not to come in. Staying in her dorm just smacked of cowardice.

So instead, she was going to busy herself by throwing out anything peach-flavored she came across, which unfortunately led to this discovery in the back. After a few minutes of looking at them in confusion, Karla decided to bring them up front and highlight them in a floor display.

Because she thought she was funny.

Okay, so Tara generally only came into Dite's ... uh. Never. She was going with never. But she hadn't seen Karla since everybody got out of the Labyrinth, and she figured that was a good reason to check in.

"Hey," she said, carefully averting her eyes from the more explicit displays, "I, um ... I have muffins. I figured you might want a treat."

[OOC: And I flee for the work holiday party! Back in a few hours.]

"You are my current favorite person of the day," Karla said, coming out from behind the counter to say hello. "Muffins sound astral."

Even more astral? That Tara cared enough to brave the store. "Thanks," Karla said, more for the latter than the former.

...Not that she was going to turn down the muffins.

"So I guess Warren hasn't been by yet," Tara teased, setting down the bakery bag. "You can pick first. There are a couple different types. And I think I kind of love the word astral."

"Warren's in my room eating birdseed unless he's changed back while I was gone," Karla said with a slight smile. "I think he missed most of the last week."

Not that Karla was holding that against him or anything. Really!

She dug through the bag until she found a cranberry-orange muffin and claimed it as her own. "Thanks again, this smells delicious," she said, peeling back the paper. "As for astral, I stole it from Ben. Jedi are useful for a lot of funny words."

"Funny timing," Tara observed. "I hope he's back to normal before he misses his finals."

Juuuuuust a little bit of a geek, Tara was.

She picked out a bright green pistachio muffin. "Maybe I need to get to know Ben better," she said thoughtfully. "I was his grandpa's TA, but that was a long time ago."

"I hope he's back to normal before me misses dress rehearsal," Karla said. "I bet the teachers would cut him more slack than Genesis would."

That was, any at all.

"I think you should," she agreed, swallowing a bite of muffin. "Not just because I like it when all my friends are friends with each other, too. But I think you guys would get along. Ender, too. You both have that whole 'quiet but competent' thing going on."

If Karla wasn't in the mood for company, Leda could always claim to be Christmas shopping.

There was something different about Leda these days, she stood a little straighter, and her hair didn't have any of it's usual punkish aspects. Her clothes looked more expensive too.

"Hey you back," Karla said, tilting her head ever so slightly. "You look different." She didn't just mean the outward aspects, either. "Weightier."

Wait, no, that was bad.

"Not heavier!" she said quickly. "Just more...gravitas. Less carefree, maybe?"

She hoped that made sense.

"That's okay, I understand. While Fandom was cut off, two months passed in Faerie. We didn't know if the connection would ever come back so," she shrugged, "They went ahead with the coronation. Karla I'm so sorry I wasn't here to help you."

"Leda, no." Karla shook her head quickly, leaning over the counter to clasp the elf's hands. "Please don't even say that. You were trapped, you had no idea if you get back, you were crowned Queen. Don't add guilt for not being here for me on top of that!" She gave Leda a small smile. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to see you crowned."

"Good point, I feel guilty enough being Queen as it is." she smirked. "I'm not sure it would have been physically possible for you to have been there in any case. But I did get some nice pictures of me in the gown. The upshot of this, I am now authorized to officially offer you the services of Faerie and it's resources in reclaiming your kingdom when the time comes."

"Really?" Karla asked, intrigued by the idea of it being physically impossible for her to attend. "Where was it held?"

The moon? The ocean? Inside a volcano?

Though the rest of Leda's statement, now wasn't that interesting. "Oooh," she murmured. "Tell me more."

Hey, she'd just taken her Tactics final. She was already in the mindset!

After talking to Jono yesterday, Rinoa decided it was probably a good idea to check in on Karla. Especially since she brought cookies.

"Hey," she said. "How are you holding up?"

And then, because she hadn't been in here before, she had to add, "... I had no idea it was this kind of a store."

"And just what kind of store do you mean?" she teased, skirting right around the first question. "We have quite a broad selection of merchandise."

"The kind of store that my father would hate to know I'm in," Rinoa laughed, holding out the cookies. And then reaching out her other arm, to offer Karla a quick hug. "'Dite just said a shop downtown. From the name, I thought it was going to be candy."

Karla returned the hug tightly, and if Rinoa noticed anything that resembled a bit of clinging, she'd surely realize it was extra gratitude for the cookies.

Really.

"I usually put up a sign the Monday after the newbie picnic," she said. "Just for that reason. As funny as their expressions are when they first show up, they're usually making that face at everything."

Rinoa wasn't going to let go just yet. Please. She dealt with Squall on a regular basis. She was well versed in Totally Not Clinging hugs, and just as good at pretending they weren't going on.

"I'm sure you do have candy here," she said, smiling mischievously. "Just ... not the kind they're looking for."

Momoko was standing outside staring at the display window and into the store. She totally wanted to go in and chat with Karla, but this store...

She'd enter in a second. Really.

It took Karla a minute to notice, she was trying to see how many tubes of peach-flavored lube she could get into the trash without using Craft. Eventually, however, she glanced up and saw Momoko peeking into the display window. "Momoko!" she said, beaming and waving the female in.

With a tube of lube. Oops.

Momoko was a superhero! She'd faced down demons and ghosts and giant mecha and harpies and ancient Egyptian queens with superpowers! So quaking at a tube of lube? Not on.

She shook her head, took a deep breath and opened the door. "Hi Karla!"

She was CAREFULLY not looking at any of the merchandise. If her face got any redder it would explode. "I came by to see how you were doing! Welcome back"

At least it wasn't the back room, where the actually explicit toys and things were. This front room was just novelty items. Like the Fundies.

"Kiss kiss, Momoko!" Karla said, tossing the tube at the trash. And missed. Boo. "Thank you for coming to check on me. Dinah mentioned you were the one who told her about what happened."

It was more than enough, the novelty items.

"I'm glad you're okay. I went to look for you and ended up getting lost in the maze." Momoko let her eyes follow the tube and then pulled them back quickly to Karla when she caught sight of some of the other things between the counter and the trashcan. "I'm not much of a hero when it comes to magic. We totally need to work on that some more."

"Dinah called you? She's not on her way, right?"
