The Park, New Years Eve Party 2010

The gates and walls of Fandom were covered in lights big and small, and as soon as the sun went down, they went on. They could be followed, like a path, down to the park, where even the trees shone brightly in the night.

There were tables upon tables of food, and bottles of drink; chief among them was the cocoa, kept warm and snugly spiked with peppermint schnapps for those who dared to touch it. There were bonfires here and there, to keep the chill out of everyone's bones, and a thick sheet of ice laid upon the pond, ready to be skated on.

Thanks to the bright, cheerful lights, the decorations also became visible: angels and animals and flowers made of snow and lit with an almost unearthly soft neon glow, pinks and blues and gentle greens.

It was New Years Eve, 2010, and Fandom was ready to let the year turn in style.

In recent years, Ender had worn old suits and older uniforms. But he'd brought back several dress uniforms from Eros. These were his dress greys, devoid of any insignia of rank (he wasn't about to invite questions about his admiral status) but obviously military.

He had a faint smile on his face, but his thoughts weren't entirely with the party.

Well, at least Dolf could be sure there wasn't a real dress code, this time? Beyond coats. He liked his coat. It kept him warm.

He was maybe a little fidgety upon entrance, but he quickly forgot about that as he got lost in all the lights.

Bruce arrived, wearing a nice suit (as if he had any other kind) with a nice coat on over it. Also, nice gloves.

And then he tried to get over to the fringes of the party as quickly as he could. He preferred New Year's to Christmas, but he still wasn't as excited as he would pretend to be if anyone approached him to talk.

The very first thing GOB did when he arrived was bribe an NPC to make a snowman just off to the side of the dance floor.

He then gave the snowman a sign to hold:
Are you a beautiful and legal woman between the ages of 18* and 35
who's feeling lonely this New Year's Eve?

Find GOB Bluth! He'll make sure you ring in 2011 with someone!

He then put a top hat on the snowman, stood ten yards away from it near the dance floor, and prepared his story that the top hat made the snowman come to life and write that sign all by itself. It was a New Year's miracle, despite the fact that the snow man was constructed, dressed, and given the sign by GOB during the party.

It was quite nice out, wasn't it? John wandered about with a bit of a smile on his face. He hadn't really bothered to dress up for the occasion, but he had a nice warm coat on his shoulders, and that was really what mattered, wasn't it?

...Though he was also fingering his phone, just waiting for the moment Sherlock called him and told him there was a case.

In a move that almost surprised herself, Kate actually showed up to this shindig. Couldn't hide out forever, as much as she'd wanted to just shut herself in Mitchell's spare room and not deal with the world at all. At least there'd be pretty lights here. And maybe booze.

However, she didn't feel festive in the slightest, and didn't look it, either, unless you counted the golden jacket. And she was only wearing that because she no longer had her black leather one.

She figured she was going to skulk around on the edges of the crowd for a while, then call it an early night, but at least she was here.

Why, yes, that was Arthur Pendragon looking like he'd been saying what?! so many times over the past two to three hours that his face was in danger of sticking that way.

He didn't look remotely dressed for a feast in the snow, either. He was in his hunting leathers, and feeling a little bit chilly. Thankfully, the what was making up for it.

"So, Merlin," he said, "A duck accident, you said."

He had not expected to be here, no.

Dōjima had decided to act on her impulse and go to Fandom for the festivities. Besides, snow was pretty for a single day! Besides, she was curious to see who else would show up that she knew. Even if it was just kids from the school, it would be a nice change of pace from work.

Bod had promised Ariel he'd come to the party so he was there, bundled up in his jacket and his doofy hat just to keep his head and ears warm.

He wasn't much in a party mood but hopefully that would change as the night progressed.

A party was always worth going to even if it was just for the free food. Hey, a guy with as little money as he had took the handouts where they were provided. It meant he had more money to spend on cigarettes.

Percy had been in New York for the past few New Year's Eve parties so this was a change of pace for him. He couldn't say he minded. He liked being outside and he actually liked the people here so he was content.

One would think Kūkaku would be cold showing up to this thing wearing the same barely-there outfit that she always seemed to wear, but she seemed completely unaffected, as if that long pipe and the one cloak she had over her shoulders was enough to keep her warm.

It was going to make for interesting people watching, but she was there with the twins for mostly one reason: to shake her head in disappointment at the fireworks she knew were coming because, seriously, did they not realize the sort of resource they had here? Her talents were being wasted on teaching...

Alexander was certainly feeling glad that his mother had packed for him a very fine winter-weather cloak for such an outdoor occasion. As always, he was incredibly impressed by the lengths taken by the committee to put the party together, feeling very honored to experience such a thing...and get ideas for his own galas once he was king of a realm and was expected to impress just as much. He happily sipped from a mug of cocoa, excited to dally and mingle with his friends now that he was back and they were about to embark on another year.

It was New Year's Eve and Lindsay was not about to spend it stuck in her dorm room. Take your pick of the food on display. Most obvious are the thermoses of hot soup, coffee, and cocoa, both in spiked and unspiked forms. Warm yourself up for the long night ahead!

Dolf hovered towards the food, though really, he was a little of two minds about it. He kept sneaking glances at the iced-over pond while he ate his tomato soup, and kind of longed for a good bowl of pea soup.

Ender had taken a cup of unspiked cocoa and availed himself to a spot a little while away from one of the bonfires. He sipped from it, occasionally casting a glance towards the fire, but he was fairly content with his spot.

GOB was still standing just off the side of the dance floor with his "Magical Snowman" directing lonely women towards the dance floor and him. He felt it was a foolproof plan, although it was most likely to prove that he was a fool.

There was skating. Skating. As if Ariel didn't already planned on being here, the skating would have definitely convinced her, so she was sparing no time in strapping on some skates and having at the pond, because it was definitely one of her favorites next to dancing.

Of course, you could forego all of that, and simply sit down by one of the bonfires, or play around in the snow. There's plenty of room for more snow sculptures, after all.

Eventually, Bod made his way over to one of the bonfires since it was a source of warmth and he wanted to be out of the way to both observe and be as unobtrusive as possible.

The fire warmed him immediately and he almost smiled.

GOB had planned on spending the countdown with a special someone - well, a special anyone who was tricked by stories of magic snowmen. That didn't work out the way he wanted, so he was going with Plan B: ringing in the new year with a fireball illusion fired from his coat sleeve.

Unfortunately there had been a mishap with the the setup of his fireball rig (in other words, he did it wrong), and it sparked brightly and early (but without fire), blinding GOB for a few seconds during which time anything could happen.

[OOC: I'm not going to be around at all today after about noon eastern, so I'm pinging GOB in here for modding. Just walk right up and lay one on him to celebrate the new year, I dare you. Or pants him. Or punch him in the face. Or all three. He won't even know who you are unless it's mentioned on radio, and I trust people here to not murder him.]

Hooray! It's 2011! - NYE

Fireworks shot up over the island, creating an incredibly impressive display in yellows and blues, painting the sky. At the same time, something rumbled underneath the island-- and for just a few minutes, anyone lucky enough to pay attention could see the giant shape of Sunshine the squid, tentacles gleaming with lights, making a few laps underneath the ice of the pond.

Ringing in the New Year wasn't nearly as much of a concern for Kūkaku; she was mostly here just to see the fireworks.
