The Boards -- CASTING -- Friday

Given the way that Snow White had gone, Genesis was quite firmly shoving down any expectations that he had for how this might turn out--his cast and crew had done a good job, the last time, yes, even despite the gingerbread his theatre had turned into for a day--and walked around without hurry as he made certain that everything was in it's place.

Though, on reflection, he still had two expectations:

That he would be amused, no matter how this turned out. And that he'd likely have a headache by the end of the day unless the island was blessed with an extraordinary high number of people with lovely singing voices.

... He'd settle for average, even. In his hopes.

But, Genesis thought, knowing himself, as he studied the stage, he'd cast anyone who he thought would be amusing. Because, really, if he wasn't entertained... then what was the point?

Between the Club Fair and classes and making sure to make it to this audition unlike the last one, Ariel was in a great mood. She loved being busy with exciting things and so she bounced into the theatre with a mood that reflected that as she called out in a sing-song voice, 'Mr. Rhapsodos! We're doing a play about dogs this time?"

"Hello Ariel," he said, pleasantly enough as he looked over at her. "Yes, it is about dogs."

And very strange dogs, indeed.

"But it's a musical, not a play."

"A musical?" It was almost impressive, how she had somehow managed to brighten up even more. "Really? Singing and dancing and everything?"

"All of that," he said easily, amused by her brightening. "I take it you're fond of singing?"

[And LJ is being slow and glitchy for me so this might be slower than I'd thought this morning, ugh. IT WASN'T DOING THIS EARLIER. WHY LJ, WHY?]

"I love singing!" Ariel said with a laugh. "Almost as much as dancing! I was sad, remember, about there not being much of either in the last one? So this is great! I don't know much about dogs, but I'm sure they're great, too!"

You know, it had been a while since Zack had set foot inside of the Boards? In fact, it had to have been since... since he'd done his substitute Stage Managing gig for Geoffrey waaaaay back when, and he'd come to realize that he was sort of starting to miss the place, and maybe he could have something to do with the lighting or the props this time around, because the gods only knew that he should never be onstage, and who was running the Boards nowadays, anyhow...?

"... Dogs?"

They made plays about that?

His eyebrow arched expressively as he leaned against the stage.

"It's a musical," Genesis said, his voice level.

But yes, about dogs.

Zack tilted his head a little as he blinked up and over at Genesis, his hand twitching momentarily. He stopped it before he could reach for his back.

Not the same Genesis. He'd get that drilled into his head sooner or later.

"I've never been involved in a musical," he said, putting his hands firmly onto his hips, instead. "I did some stage managing here before, for the last guy who owned the place, though."

A pause.

"You do own this place now, right?"

Or was Genesis just being weird and kind of creepy?

"Owner and director," he said, with a smile for his theatre. Not for Zack. Don't make the mistake of that, Zack. "You stage managed?"

Zack grimaced a bit and shrugged.

"Well, kind of. I mostly did things like mop up the syrup," he confessed. "The stage manager for one of Geoffrey's shows kinda up and took off, so I was roped into covering for him. I'd just been doing backstage up until then."

To Zack's credit, the building was still standing!

"Did you think I was displeased with your work the last time?" The surprise, he'd not quite expected.

"You did nothing I did not approve of," he replied, "and so long as your tinkering does not interfere with the performances, I care little about what actually goes on."
